Werewolf Rules and Etiquette

If you are new, please click here.
If you are not, you should know what's up. But no one will tell you anything if you click all the same. Just in case

Times and Deadlines

  • Day will break around 8AM EST.
  • Night will fall at 8PM EST.
  • Night Actions need to be submitted by 6AM EST.
  • Day actions will not be processed during the first and the last hour of the day.

STILL NIGHT, NO POSTING!

Do's and don'ts

The obvious
  • Do not edit your posts. This is an instant modkill.
  • Do not character or codeword claim. Do not hint at your character or your codeword. This is an instant modkill. The only exception is the Grey Warden codeword.
  • Unless stated otherwise, you may claim your role. Whether it is wise to do so is another matter.
  • If your ability has an unusual name, please contact us before claiming it.
  • Do not quote your role PM. Do not copy/paste it. Do not screenshot it. That's a paddl... you guessed it, an instant modkill.
  • Do not talk about unrevealed role PMs. We will judge this situation case by case, but never has the "better safe than sorry" proverb been more appropriate than in this case.
  • Do not nightpost: :00 GOOD, :01 BAD, :02 MODKILL.
  • This game does not allow deadposts.
  • If you are (or were) playing in this game, live or dead, do not talk about the game, to anyone, outside the game thread and private chats that may have been granted you by the game moderators.

The less obvious, but similarly important
  • Do not talk about subs and modkills.
  • Do not invoke for moderator decisions in the game thread. PM the mod account instead.
  • Do not intentionally edit the subject line of your posts.
  • You have signed up, so we expect you to participate. If you are unable to participate at all, please PM us and we will try to sub you out. Please have a good reason: "I'm a rustled by this game" or "I don't want to play anymore" requests will be promptly turned down.
  • Players who failed to post at least 10 times by EOD, will be subjected to a death rand unless a sub is immediately available. Every post under 10 will add 10% to the chance of modkill.
  • Players who failed to post at least 10 times by EOD but survive the modkill rand, will be mod-roleblocked for that night. Unroleblockable actions are inefficient against mod roleblocks.
  • If you have means of outside-the thread communications, do not posts the text of such communications in the game thread.

About modding

  • Day Actions may not be proxied.
  • If you have submitted a Night Action or a Day Action, you will receive a reply from us. If your action warrants no information return on our behalf, you will simply receive a "Processed". This means we have received your Night or Day Action and have processed it. If you have not received anything, then something happened. It is possible that we are suddendly busy processing other stuff, but if the delay seems unreasonable to you, do not hesitate to prod us.
  • If your Night or Day action had an expectation for information return, and something has denied that information to you (basic example: you have tried to peek someone and have been roleblocked) you will receive a "No Result" result.
  • Unless explicitly stated otherwise, your Night and Day actions are not compulsory. If they are not submitted, they will not be processed and will not be randomized. This applies to the wolf team nightkill.
  • If player A roleblocks player B and player B roleblocks player C, player C is not roleblocked.
  • You are allowed to pre-submit your Night and Day Actions.
  • Please note that should your Day Actions be submitted before 9AM EST, and another action be also submitted before 9AM EST, but after the first one, and a third action be submitted exactly at 9AM EST, the 3 actions will be processed simultaneously (at 9AM EST, of course).

Other useful notes
  • Please do not PM the moderator account for futile reasons during the game.
  • An instant messenger will be useful to have for certain events. It will be outright necessary for some of them. Feel free to add me, UncleDynamite, on Skype (aeakhmedov) or on Discord (Unkie D).

ITAs

This game will feature In-thread Attacks (ITAs). They will start on day 2 and last as long as that gameday starts with at least 20 players. An announcement will be made on every gameday that features ITAs.

Ground rules
  1. There will be two ITA session on every day that features ITAs. They will be held at 11:30AM EST and 17:30PM EST, respectively. Each session will last 45 minutes.
  2. You get one shot per day, not per session. There are players that might be able to shoot more than once a day, though; this will be dealt in a future modpost.
  3. Shots are to be formatted in Bold Red. For example, Shoot UncleDynamite. As long as the target’s name is clear, further formatting is irrelevant.
  4. If your shot is incorrectly formatted, you will have to shoot at the same target ASAP (with the correct formatting, of course). If you try to shoot at someone else, or fail to shoot again because of what the moderator consider to be dishonest intentions (angleshooting) you and your team will be punished.
  5. If you shoot at a dead player, you lose your shot.
  6. I will try to announce the start and the end of ITAs at :00 seconds. However, any ITA shot that was taken before the session is declared open will miss and the shooter will not get it back.
  7. This rule is valid for the whole gameday, so this is just a reminder: please do not spam walls of text, pics and embedded videos during an ITA session. Violators will be trespassed.

You ought to know that...
  1. There are two ways ITA shots will be resolved.
  2. It is either “[playername] is dead. He was: (role PM goes here).”
  3. Or “No one has died.” This may happen for various reasons, all of which, I am sure, you can imagine.

Events

This game will feature events (duh!).

Quick and dirty rules about events:

  1. Typically, events are held in the event thread.
  2. Any event recruitment post will indicate whether there is danger of death and whether the event is safe for phoneposters. Ignore these warnings at your own risk.
Please note that events without danger or death may still carry some penalties for those that perform poorly in them.
  3. Should you have outside-the-game chat, you may not discuss events there until they are over.
  4. Until the event is over, event participants must refrain from discussing it in the game thread.
  5. Unless stated otherwise (either in the gamethread or via PM) all prizes won in the events are claimable.
  6. Unless stated otherwise (either in the gamethread or via PM) all day or night actions that are generated from event prizes are unroleblockable and may not be moved to another target.
  7. If the nature of the event makes it possible, all prizes will be awarded privately. When all the prizes have been shipped, an announcement will be made.
  8. Once you enter the event, you must play to win. Even if you have been fakepeeked wolf twice and everyone else is a modpeeked villager, you have the obligation to play to win. In other words, no sandbagging and no colluding.

Codewords

Every player in the game will receive one or more codewords. Most are received at the night 0 rand, but some, such as the Grey Warden codeword may also be acquired thorought the game. Once a codeword is acquired, it cannot be removed. Players are privately informed if they received a codeword; their reveals will contain their post-night 0 codewords, should they have any, in a separate quotebox.

Important rules about codewords
  1. With the exception of Grey Warden, codewords may not be claimed upon pain of modkill.
  2. Full role peeks, should they exist in this game, will not include codewords.

Racial codewords: Every player in the game receives at least one of the codewords below.

CodewordFeaturesNotes and restrictions
DwarfImmunity to diseases.Unclaimable. May not receive the Mage codeword.
ElfAny Night Action directed towards them has an innate 10% of failure. Does not apply to protective effects.Unclaimable.
HumanAdds 10 points each time they roll against anyone without the Human codeword.Unclaimable.
Non-humanoid
None.
Unclaimable. May not receive the Grey Warden codeword.
QunariThe first ITA hit on them is processed as “No one has died”, and they add 30 points to the hit rate of their next ITA shot, provided the shot is taken during the same day. The player is not informed if they survive an ITA hit due to their Qunari codeword. Unclaimable.

Class codewords: an undisclosed number of players start with one of the codewords below. No player may have more than one Class codeword.

CodewordFeaturesNotes and restrictions
Mage
  1. Chances of entering the Fade are doubled.
  2. Receive 20 extra points each time they enter the Fade.
May not receive the Dwarf codeword. Unclaimable.
RogueGain one of the following three modifiers:
  1. Poisontouch: 30% base ITA hit rate. A successful hit gives a poison wound (a disease) to the target. All shots are processed as “No one has died”.
  2. Stealthy: Silent ITA shooter. May post a fake shot in the game thread.
  3. Backstabber: if the Rogue has not been targeted by Night Actions during the previous night, they will enjoy a boost of 15% to their next day’s hit rate. Otherwise, they ITA shot will fire at a regular hit rate, but will backfire on them.
Rogues are told which modifiers they have obtained.
Unclaimable.
WarriorAdd 5% to their basic ITA hit rate.Unclaimable.

Special codewords: an undisclosed number of players may start with one or more of the codewords below:

CodewordFeaturesNotes and restrictions
Grey Warden
  1. Unless a cure to the Calling is found, players with this codeword have a maximum lifespan of 5 night/day cycles starting with the moment they received it (hence, a player that starts the game with this codeword will die after day 5's lynch reveal).
  2. If they kill the Archdemon, the Archdemon role is removed from the game, and, unless the Warden that performed a Dark Ritual, the Grey Warden die during that night (if the kill was performed at night) or during the following night (if the kill was performed during the day).
Claimable. May be acquired thorought the game. Players with Non-humanoid codeword may not receive this one.
Inquisition
[Secret even to most players with this codeword, Unclaimable for those who know.]
Unclaimable.
RoyaltyAdd 20 points to any 1-100 roll that involves the player in any way, except rands that occur in the Fade. This includes ITA rolls. Unclaimable. May not receive other codewords during the game.

Q&A about codewords

Q: So if a player without a Grey Warden codeword kills this Archdemon, does the Archdemon not die?
A: The player with the Archdemon role does, but the role is passed to another player on the Archdemon's team, provided there is one.
I guess that secret is out of the window.

Q: Is the thread informed if the Archdemon role has been passed to another player?
A: No.

Q: Why would anyone want to be a Grey Warden?
A: You get to give your life for Ferelden. Or maybe you try, but baudib YOLO's you. Such is life.

Q: Dark Ritual? Calling? WTF are these?
A: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Q: I do not need to be familiar with the theme to play this, right?
A: You do not.

Q: What is the Fade? What are diseases?
A: That will be explained in future modposts.

Q: This **** is too long.
A: That is not a question.

Q: Why is this **** so long?
A: It takes all of 5 minutes to read this. You are a lazy bastard.

The Fade

The Fade is a metaphysical realm that every living creature may visit during their dreams.
It is known that Mages have a particular affinity to the Fade.

Everything you need to know about the Fade:
  1. The Fade is the realm of dreams, but it is also the land of Spirits and Demons.
  2. Spirits want to test your knowledge and your wit. Demons want to taste your blood.
  3. In the Fade, Mages are extremely powerful, but they are also particularly vulnerable, because Demons are naturally attracted to them.

Technical details:
  1. On day 1, day 2 and day 3, everyone will be able to request access to the Fade for that night. In order to do so, they will need to PM the mod account during the relevant day.
  2. 4 (four) entrants will be selected immediately after the lynch reveal, and their names will be revealed in the game thread.
  3. In the Fade, great rewards wait for the brave, the smart and the lucky. Death awaits everyone else. Be prepared.
  4. The event will take place immediately after the lynch reveal. It will be two to three hours long. If you sign up and do not show up, expect repercussions.
  5. Participants will need access to Skype. Phoneposters do not last long in the Fade.
  6. There will be a separate event thread for every night in the Fade. Those who are not in the Fade during that night may not read that thread.
  7. If you were in the Fade on any given night, you may not reveal to other players what happened in the Fade. Generic statements like: “X was villagery in the Fade” are fine.
  8. There will be no after-event chat.
  9. Unless everyone dies, there will be a winner. If more than one player remains alive, the prize will be given to the worthiest of the lot. The winner’s identity will not be declared. The winner will be unkillable during that night.

Diseases

You do not want to get a disease, but, sometimes, it is not your choice. Unless, of course, you have the Dwarf codeword. Then you cannot get gonorrhea are immune to diseases, but you still cannot reach the top shelf.

Anyway, here is what is waiting for you. One day, all of these diseases will be yours!

DiseaseEffectCodewords that grant immunity to this disease
Poison woundOnce you get 3 poison wounds, you die, and no effect will prevent this.Dwarf
Lycanthropy
  1. First night of infection: you are roleblocked.
  2. Second night of infection: from this moment on, you may no longer be cured.
  3. Third night of infection: you die after the lynch.
Dwarf

How does it work?

Q: So I got a disease. Will I be privately informed of that?
A: No.

Q: So how am I going to learn that I have a disease?
A: Look for live playerlists. If the next one has your name coloured in seablue, then I’m afraid I have got some bad news.
Also, no playerlists will be published during ITA sessions.

Q: When are live playerlists published?
A: At Start of Day, at the end of any ITA session. We will also provide them by request, but please do not abuse this feature, or the modding will be slower.

Q: So I do not get to know which disease I have?
A: No, you do not.

Q: Is there going to be an in-thread announcement when a diseased player has been healed?
A: Yes.

Runes

Runes have always been a part of the Dragon Age games, so I thought it would be nice to have them here.
Runes are typically earned during the game. Some are awarded in events; I cannot give a vig for every event I run, after all (alright, I could. I just do not want to do it).
Things to know:
  1. With the exception of the Nature rune, all runes, as well as their effects, are claimable.
  2. If you receive a rune, you are usually informed of the fact. There are exceptions to this rule; they can depend on the type of rune, the situation the rune is received, or both.
  3. Once you receive a rune, you automatically equip it (the only exception to this is the Nature rune). This means that the effect the rune grants will stay with you until its effect is used. After it is used, temporary runes dissolve, but permanent runes do not.
  4. Permanent runes may still be dissolved by other means.
  5. You will not be made aware if a rune that you have equipped is dissolved.
  6. The effects of identical runes do not stack.
  7. You may hold a maximum of 3 (three) runes. Once you receive a fourth, the oldest rune you have will automatically dissolve. If you have more than one oldest rune, the choice will be randomised.

Here are the runes that are present in the game, together with the relative effects:

Rune nameEffectDurabilityNotes
AmplificationAll shots that target you in the next ITA session will enjoy a 20% boost to their hit rate.TemporaryIf you receive this rune, you are never informed of it.
ImpactYou gain double rewards from events and your basic ITA hit rate is doubled. However, all ITA shot that you are targeted with will hit at a double hit rate and all votes on you will count twice at End of Day.PermanentIf you receive this rune, you are always informed of it.

You gain an extra life.
TemporaryThe lynch consumes all of your lives. If you lose your extra life, you will only be made aware of this if you were informed that you received this rune in the first place.

If you wish, you may decide to shoot twice in the same ITA session.
NatureGain the Poisontouch modifier, even if you do not have the Rogue codeword.PermanentUnclaimable. If you receive this rune, you are always informed of it. You may choose to dissolve this rune instead of equipping it.

Someone has decided to tell a story:

Quote:
One time I was working at a car dealership and I was supposed to get off at 5 pm. I was really tired and just wanted to go home, but they offered me $100 to the an 8 hour round trip to pick up a car. I looked down at the time. 2 pm. It was an hour drive from my work to my house and I just wanted to be home. After the 4 hour trip there I was driving in the new car we had traded for, it was already 6 pm by the time I had gotten on the roads, and I wanted to be home, so I took the car around 110 to cut the time down.

Just as I was about to get onto the interstate a cop who was facing the other direction after pulling someone else over flips his lights and siirens on and attempts a u-turn. Luckily for me, the person I had driven with was behind me, and someone else behind him - all travelling the same speed - after I pull onto the interrace, without slowing down, the policeman gives up pursuit and turns off his lights. I was at the dealership by 8:45 pm and home by 9:30.
Is this true? Is this false? Please PM the moderator account by the next lynch reveal and you might win a prize! No risk of death.

I think my best help ITG is going to be lore & mechanics.

Firstly, some insight one of the most important power/class that jumps out to me:

It should be reasonable to assume that 1/3rd of the Rogues in the game are poisontouch. Poisoners can be thought of, at worst, 33% vigs (without the random.org element) or 3 day-delay vigs. At best, however, in the hands of a coordinated and knowledgeable village, can potentially be used as targeted nightly vigs. Furthermore, even if they are tracked/peeked from wolves, the wolves can only partially remove the threat and would have no idea who other poisoners are. It goes without saying that poisoners become more and more important as the game goes on. I think it would be in the best interest of the village to leave poisoner cover along with any other NA cover.

Consider this: if we have a strong POE list with a few wolfy players up top, poisoners can literally pepper the positions 3-5 of the list (leaving top two for vigs/lynches since there shouldn't be overlap) and basically making those wolfy players easier to kill. By spreading them out too it protects poisoners against potential Watches.

Furthermore, remember that poison players should show up in blue in the next player list. If you have poisoned someone who does not show up as such, it means they are a Dwarf. From my experience, there is probably only one Dwarf wolf that I can think of, and probably 3-5 Dwarf villagers, so if that happens, pretty good chance you've just lock cleared someone

Next, it interests me that the Inquisition tag is secret to most everyone. Anyone who has played the game should deduce that it's got to be a pro-village mechanic, so anyone who is not familiar with your lore character should take the time and skim the DA wiki article about him/her, to see if he/she was involved in the inquisition. If so, you may have a nice passive power or inherit something in the future
