I don't get much interest in my poker competitions so its time to bring that ineptitude to the music competitions.
Easy one to start.
Submit 6 cover songs (instros are OK too) by giving me a YouTube link to the songs.
But.....(there's always a but).....you gotta cover the world.
We'll divide the world into continental Europe, Asia, Africa, North America and South America. That's 5. The rest are islands. That's 6. One song from each area.
Easy so far? Right.
However, the world must be covered 2 ways. The 6 performing artists and the 6 songs must both cover all 6 areas.
For solo performers use where they were born. For musical groups use where the group got together. For songs use the where the first performer to record the song was from.
Example: Graham Nash is from an island. Crosby Stills & Nash are from North America.
Example2: "Purple Haze" is an island song because The Jimi Hendrix Experience were formed in England even though Jimi was from Seattle.
And a performer from one area cannot cover a song from the same area.
A bit more of a head scratcher now? OK, a bit.
Still, shouldn't be too hard.
You have til the end of August to submit.
As usual the scoring criteria will not be disclosed (until its all over).
Good luck.

Hey, finally got a comment!
I'm new to this walrus thing too and was confused by how easy the musical submissions were. Some had hundreds of thousands of songs that would qualify. I decided to tighten it up a bit and add a little "puzzle" to the submissions.
Also, it appears that the only thing you have to think about with these walruses is guess the musical taste of the original poster and then try and pick something that will match it. In this one, I may be swayed by the quality of the music (in my opinion) but I'm also giving points for being clever. "Mbube"/"Wimoweh"/"The Lion Sleeps Tonight" gets no bonus clever points. Be creative.

What does Australia come under?

Asia or Islands?

You know what, this is too much effort. I've been trying to do this for a few days now and just can't make it work.

You'll get a lot more entrants if you remove either the artist restriction or the song restriction. One of them is okay. Both is near impossible.

Australia is an island.

Just to make sure it wasn't too hard, I did one myself. It took a little while but mostly looking through covers to try and find something better.
Start with the most difficult (in my case, an African song) and then work towards the easiest. And of course use YouTube: I didn't realize that "Artist A" did a cover of "Song B". In fact, I didn't know that Artist A was still around: I bought their first LP in about 1980!
Does anyone want me to post my 6? You could steal from it if you're stuck but you'd get no points for originality.

My original instructions might be read two ways. Just to be clear, the 6 areas are:
continental Europe
continental Asia
continental Africa
continental North America
continental South America
the rest (islands)

I made a mistake when I made out my list of 6. I originally had a Japanese performer covering a song originally recorded by an English band. No, those are both islands (I was thinking of Japan as part of Asia). I changed that to a Cambodian performer covering a song by an English band. That's better.

Reminder: last day for entries

Don't tell me that this was too much of a puzzle.
It wasn't that tough. Or was it?

No winner because........................no entries!

sorry that I didn't enter but, yeah it was too difficult. I didn't really have the time to put into it.

piece of advice that you're welcome to take or ignore: Try running a few simple games and as people get used to them gradually build up the difficulty.
