Square - If unlimited wanted us to go down to square then I don't think Cats would be the clue.
Stadium - Unless there is some Cats stadium I'd eliminate this
Whale - animal connection but would rely on us eliminating elephant for the reason I gave

Odd combo of clue + number.

We have to say memory and we have to say window.

Unlimited with 3 left usually means 1 then 2 backups. Which would mean Window/Square/Memory. But is Cats the absolute best 1 clue for Memory and not something like recollection? Maybe I'm just overthinking this because I don't see any other option except those three words.

My problem with this is that IBD could have said Cats - 2 for this, but he didn't.

I had always treated the 3 to go round as:

1 - top backup is wrong and I can't connect the last 3 in a single clue
2 - top backup is right, 2nd backup is wrong
3 - top backup is wrong and I'm doing my best to connect the last three
unlimited - top 2 backups are right, current clue is for just 1.

I think we have to go Window Square and Memory.

Perhaps the clue is awkward because he doesn't want us to go Elephant.

Could be, but yeah I think we have to trust the logic of unlimited here rather than worry about whether Cats is the best clue for this spot.

What does this unlimited clue mean? That both our backups (air + death) are correct?

Air + Death both hit blitz anyway so I don't think either of those are tulip words, so we have 3 blitz words and 1 tulip word why not blitz - 3 instead? Does the unlimited clue mean air is correct but death isn't?

huskies - got all 3 words surely
tulips - bulb + greenhouse for sure, not air or death anymore
blitz - 3 of air, death, sack and hit

If both air+death was ours then nich would've clued a very simple unlimited clue that hits specific 1 word (say it was Stadium he'd clue something like 'Wembley - unlimited' so we'd know air/death/stadium was ours and we had 1 tulip word left to figure out

That's my thinking anyway might be completely wrong lol and I have no idea what the 3rd tulip word could be anyway will come back later and think harder

If air/death are both ours then nich would clue something like Santa - unlimited as that hits sack specifically and no other word on the list so we'd know our last word would be a tulip word, more I think about it the more convinced I am that one of air/death isn't ours

ok i just took a shower and was thinking about this the whole time.

my best theory is this:

We are both from the UK, where about 50% of our school curriculum is about the Blitz where the Germans bombed the hell out of us in WW2. But Nich is not from the UK and may not be as aware of the meaning of blitz to us.

I was thinking that a blitz might be a handegg term and that he is trying to get us to guess hit and sack and couldn't say something like "football" because of stadium. Now that you've confirmed it is an actual American football term I feel much better about my theory.

Definitely possible, hit+sack would just be 'quarterback' or 'tackle' though if air+death were both ours

Still got a tulip word left as well and honestly can't see anything on the list that remotely connects to tulip except air for the oxygen connection

And the fact tulips isn't capitalized makes me think it's not a name of a song or a film so it's to do with the flower

How about earthquake for blitz? It has connotations with death and destruction like the blitz did

I'd be shocked if our last 4 words are sack/hit/air/death, surely nich would just do a qb/tackle - unlimited clue

Yeah but maybe he thought it might be too close to stadium and tried to be ultra specific to try and lead us away from that.

I feel like if he knows blitz means bombs and destruction he could just clue blitz - 3 or blitz - 4 and we would have more info assuming at least 1 of air/death is ours.

It makes more sense to me that he would clue a specific football term to get hit/sack whilst avoiding stadium and then for us to run through our list and that he is simply unaware of the other context than him cluing this knowing that air/death both relate heavily to blitz and trying to get us to guess earthquake.

I still say nich would've gone qb/tackle - unlimited for hit+sack but you might be right so i'm happy to go along with it

Still not got a scooby what the 3rd tulips word could be, convinced bulb/greenhouse/air would just be flower - 3, no idea why tulips specifically but spent way too long on this turn so got to just go for air imo
