Two seem really good.

horse - horse jumping
pool - jump into a pool

after that

buck - a deer jumps over things.. fences, actually.. here in Alberta
spike - the volleyball shot definitely involves a jump with the spike
box - jump up on a box or off

I think I am at buck or spike for third one. Buck as in the bucking action gives me another way to hit jump in addition to the noun (deer)

Well done, AK! GG, Gad and irtm.

I knew I was taking a risk with McMurtry. I guessed that you might go with novel if you didn't know who he was. I figured I could pick up horse later.

I wanted to bust out something like Augusta-5/6, but club and hole being red put a stop to that. I think both of us were waiting to get in a golf clue.

I realized afterwards I should have said mattress - 0 instead of cardboard; I think we win if I do that, because then cardboard doesn't (very reasonably) lead you to iron

Just as well, red was loaded with golf words

Sink, Wind, Spike, Hole, Club and Arm

plus I can find a way to make any word a golf word in my head....lol
