Actually corn can be used to make fuel and I guess that would be a biofuel. Linking fuel to our list I think I still have it below the others.

Garden 5 was:
Eden, Rock, Root, Cotton, Castle

I don't really know why Cotton didn't come up, blue team mentioned cotton plants but red team never did.

I had the choice to take either Castle or Air as my 5th Garden word, and I chose Castle because I felt the association was stronger: Castles have gardens, and medieval/fantasy stories often have scenes in the courtyard where the knights or princesses or whatever are in the garden, and many famous castles around the world are known for their gardens. I felt this was stronger than Air, because even though gardens are outside, Air isn't as specific. My team felt differently.

Octopus was intended to be a blocker to prevent Blue from winning in 1 turn - With Octopus on the board, you could not have any way to realize you had Whale (and Goat) but not Octopus.

Unfortunately, my team guessed Octopus on the first turn because of a song I'd never heard of, and the game was decided in that moment.

My other words were Shot, Driver, and Port.

Port was intended as another potential blocker if he went water-related or tried to use Noah's Arc.

Port/Driver are computer-y, with Shot they can become webcam on my second turn. OR if Octopus doesn't get hit as the blocker, I can try Ink because octopi shoot ink, and printers use ink and have ports/drivers.

The answer to this is sort of "both"

We both tried to take easy lists, apparently Prip's was easier than mine.

But we also both took blockers, as we immediately snatched Octopus/Whale on different teams, and I assume he took Air when he realized that I was going for a Garden clue.

I probably should have taken more blockers, I realized what he was going for about halfway through but I wasn't certain if "Biology" could get all 8 in one turn. The answer was, yes, it could. I thought my blocker would stop a 1-turn victory and therefore trying to just construct my own strategy was safe, but it didn't work out.

The actual game played out really simply, but the drafting was actually pretty interesting, since you are basically building your clues in realtime, and you have to make decisions about which blockers to take.

I started by taking Rock because it was a) something that could easily fit in to any of the nature themed words while b) serving as a great blocker if the other team were to take any of them.

I'd be curious to see another 2 games by cycling through spymasters, assuming people feel they can draft in a time-efficient manner.

The only other interesting thing: In terms of blockers, I didn't really mind if you guys hit air. I figured you'd guess Eden/Rock/Root/Cotton and then not be sure if it was Castle or Air, but even if you hit air, they couldn't win in 1 turn while I had Octopus, so you'd move on to a 2nd turn and I'd try to win there and you could pick up Castle if you didn't get it.

Blockers are probably pretty inevitable in this format, and it actually doesn't matter if your team hits one, as long as you can still win on the next turn? Maybe. We'll see.

I think each thread should play 3 games so we all get to spy. But we should wait for other game to be over or else they can never look here to see how the same words played in another game.

I'm not too surprised by the direction the other game is going. This board has strong nature themes, whether it is on land or in the water. And then it has scientific themes, which were given by biology here, but could be gotten to in another way. It looks like one team got both Whale and Octopus over there though, which works very well when song titles don't get in the way. =P

Fascinating stuff. It will be very interesting to see how drafting strategy evolves. I'm likening this to snooker in my mind. Do you try to build a big break, possibly making things easy for the opponent if your team missteps? Or do you play a safety game, grabbing a couple of easy ones then trying to block the opponent.

PokerCrazy, back worried me because i saw slipper, tie, and cotton and thought clothes or something might be Dels's 2nd batch of clues. Also, gardening can be hard on the back so I thought it was best to see how lip worked out first...
