ring/web/cricket are my top three i think

i would like cricket a ton more if wireless was capitalized, but i think we have to go for it, seeing as there's not much else i'd be confident in guessing

Web looks like a lock, and not really sure after that. I can make quite a few connections, but none of them are particularly strong.

i don't know anyone that actually uses them (afaik), but i thiiiiink it's well known enough that it would be hard for nails to overlook

yeah, not sure what i like more for the make-up between crash and sub

does sub automatically make us think of subway? seems tenuous to me. or is a sub being a vehicle (although not really used for transit) good enough? not sure

crashes happen during transit all the time, so i think that's slightly safer

Tube was a transit word, so I think it makes it more likely that sub=subway? Not really sure about that, but makes sense. I don't think he'd risk us guessing it if it was assassin now anyway, since we had it as backup. Crash works for both, but if we guess that first then I don't think we can really be sure what clue it was for (unless there's overlap).

And yeah, I guess ring is a frontrunner for wireless, but it's still a couple of steps away from the clue just like everything else seems to be. Not sure it's that much better than a couple of the other options you mentioned.

There's also (fire)stick and black(berry), but they are probably easier to miss. And don't forget about bear.

Hmmmm I kinda like the fire stick thought, but still prefer ring as third. Yeah it's not ideal because it's two steps, but it's very hard to miss

I'm fine with ring for third. You think sub for transit, or do you like crash better?

My preference would be to hold off on web - think best strategy would be to start ring/cricket/sub and reeval if all those hit/something misses.
