interested carved rather than carve or carving...so either something here hits harder on carved or he wants to eliminate something that goes with carve or carving (like hiking would have eliminated/moved down day for other team)

not seeing a ton of good stuff here, but let's go through it:

Aztec - lots of Aztec carvings in gold and wood and stone, etc, but doesn't hit 'carved' nearly as hard
Back - you carve the back of a cow or something, but not great; also carved has the weight lifter connotation, and so back may fit better there
Bark - you can carve bark or carve something out of bark, but not great; just wood carvings and carved out of wood may make this an ok guess or backup
Berry - nah
Bridge - people carve initials in bridges, but not really carved
Bug - nah
Cap - nah
Cliff - cliff is carved out of the ground by a glacier or water or something, not great but maybe better than anything so far
Comic - don't see it
Conductor - don't see it
Cotton - don't see it
Deck - similar to bridge
Doctor - they carve you up in surgery, but not sure about carved
England - don't see it
Field - don't see it
Fighter - similar to back; a muscular fighter can be described as carved
File - you file things down, similar to carving, not sure about carved though
Greece - the carved sculptures maybe?
Hole - you carve a hole; i guess a hole was carved is good enough based on what we have so far
Key - you carve a key; i guess a key was carved is good enough for this list
Knight - don't see it
Mouth - you carve a mouth into a pumpkin; not sure about carved being as good
Olive - I guess you can carve olives? really just cut in half and don't see carved
Olympus - a mountain is carved out of the earth? meh
Pants - don't see it
Paper - don't see it
Parachute - don't see it
Ray - a laser ray could carve something; sting rays carve the water as they swim? meh
Scale - if someone is carved or a weight lifter or fighter, then they have to weigh in, etc

Shop - you buy carvings at a shop
Soldier - soldiers can be buff and thus "carved"
Space - meh
Tablet - yeah, a stone table is carved
Temple - carved out of stone, sure
Torch - meh, mostly just because you find torches in temples and such, not great
Trunk - a trunk can be carved from wood?
Vet - similar to soldier plus the animal surgery angle
Washington - the Washington Monument is carved from stone

based on how weak the list is, i'm thinking we take carved as meaning buff + carved items like tablet

If you want to combine this idea with muscles you have to say chiseled or something. Carved is not really a common term for that to me.

I always think of stuff carved into cliffs but maybe I've just watched too many documentaries. Kind of tough to parse why carved and decide between list. I do like cliff as something more carved than carve but a lot of words are close.

Theories on why carved instead of carve or carving?

There has to be a reason

i'm not a huge fan of aztec for carved tho. i think carvings would hit that better?

cliff - really only hits carved?

bark - probably hits carved the least of the 3 options

Washington could be a carved not carve word for Mount Rushmore (Carver even better for washington but maybe different other words)

I felt both carvings and carved would point to Aztec more than carve

I think I thought of Aztec = carved as being a past tense verb rather than an adjective

Otherwise agree with insanity's assessment. Not sure how much I like Washington just a thought I had.

i had well in my list, but not liking it as much anymore. kinda liking hole/file more tho

temple and olympus could fit either or both (or neither!)

I'm a little nervous about mouth because sound was theirs. Makes me wonder if Born didn't think of the voice angel. Still think we are going to end up guessing it but not eager to put it high.

If we want to stick with mouth first i'm ok with it, I just didn't want to put it high in the guess list.

i mean it's not like he's gonna give a 0 clue if mouth is wrong on the second turn of the game, especially after they start with a 6 and 7
