I propose a 2 v 2 tourney, single elimination. Teams play turbos at some agreed upon times over a few days and we eventually crown a champ.

Random teams, strict timing rules which we can establish before we begin.

I think we could maybe get 8 teams. Even 4 is cool, though.

We probably don't need a new thread for every turbo on a given night, aside from simultaneous ones obviously.

Single elim, random teams doesn't strike me as necessarily ideal. Do you have any thoughts on double elim, with teams getting randomized each round (can lead to bad states), or single elim and pick your team?


Double elim, show up in thread and try to run a randed, ranked turbo whenever you have time to play also sounds decent, with scheduling as necessary for the busy people

My thoughts on this:

Codenames is high variance, so I'm not necessarily opposed to double elimination - however it would just increase the number of games and make the logistics all the more difficult.

I'm not really trying to objectively determine the best Codenames player with this tourney. Single elimination tourneys add a bit of excitement. There is a reason March Madness is so popular.

As far as a ranked play leader board, I figure we could just do that anyway with any turbos or slow games that run. Not it on keeping the stats, though. I was viewing this as more of a one-off event.

As far as randomized teams go ... I'm hoping to make the tourney less intimidating to enter. Some people may fear being left out. On the other hand, some people might be more comfortable to a friend. Not sure what is best.

Would love to hear the thoughts of others on any of this.

I wasn't suggesting and don't want any kind of ranking. By run a ranked game I meant have it count for the tournament, as opposed to a random turbo

I think we are on the same page for this part. I wasn't planning on making a set schedule but rather squeezing games in when a time window opened.

I'll keep this open for another day to try to get to 16. Otherwise, we'll try to make it work with what we have
