Crap I knew O was oxygen for Air but didn’t realize the other word. Table is super obvious now, not sure how I knew it was Air but didn’t think of the Table connection.

First chance to post since game end - aye - that was pretty tough with them racing out to 7 in 2 turns. Temple was hours but church was neutral so I wanted to start there - I clued Kremlin(it's in Moscow) as I hoped it was close enough to get Czech(seemed to be) and then for you to take a shot at something cathedral-like such as church so that would open up options later with it being out of the way(I could say religious type words for temple without you going for church first).

I did have Frozen saved up but wanted to see what they'd do but unfortunately it was a perfect 7/7 - pretty much every word was ours with a couple neutrals(glass was the last one, you were right about screen). On the last turn I needed to combine pin and temple + hope you'd get to glass somehow(you were already on screen) - so I went lobotomies - I hoped to get off table which is why I didn't go for lobotomy or something like psychosurgery but still tough to get away from. I was linking plenty of 3's at the end but was tough to clue temple/pin and glass which you weren't on yet but may have gotten so I was unsure - I think you did have the right idea with 2 lobotomies words and 2 previous as I would have gone 3 or 4 instead of unlimited if I wanted you to guess more than 2 for that clue, GG and I think we were decently close.

On a side note I think "O" is an illegal clue - if we had 3 words like Orange, Octopus, Oink you wouldn't be allowed to say O - 3. So with that - when Nich says O, Olympus can essentially be ruled out as not theirs because that would have been an illegal clue.

I probably would have guessed Czech + temple for Kremlin. The buildings do look a bit like religious structures if you don't know what you are looking at.

I don't agree with your take on O. It is obviously illegal just as the letter O, but not in the context Nich used it. I wold make no assumptions about Olympus because of the O clue. If Nich game back with "greek 2" I'm obviously guessing Olympus and assuming it was not one of the O words.

Is "top" an illegal clue? If someone clued "top" would you deduce the top word on the list can't possibly be yours?

You could maybe make the argumement O is not legal because it is not a word. Acronyms are allowed, but O is not an acronym.

O is a legal clue in the context it was used. It obviously cannot be used to clue for words that start with the letter O, which isn’t what Nich was doing

O if oxygen is on the board is fine since the connection is it’s the symbol for oxygen but O for Olympus is not because there is no connection other than the letter

So O didn’t eliminate Olympus because the letter anymore than car eliminates Olympus

It wouldn't have changed the result of the game or anything(Carl did miss the guess on O) but that still seems a little cheesy to me - you eliminate Olympus for 'car' because it has nothing to do with it, while in this case Olympus can be eliminated for 'O' just because it's not allowed to start with that letter - seems to go against the spirit a little of clues not having anything to do with starting letters but information is still gained.

Hmmm thinking stuff like bonsai and sister...will start with the undodgeable

ANY clue has to be related to the word(s) you clue for.

It doesn’t matter if the letter is the clue or not for Olympus.

Just like 8-1 is valid one clue for octopus even if it s 8th on the list but if 8th on the list doesn’t relate to 8 then it’s not a valid connection.


The word must relate to clue and that’s the rule; there isn’t any bad thing with O not relating to Olympus compared to O not relating to Zeus...both aren’t the connection because neither relates to 0 not because of the spelling

O - 1 is a valid clue for Oxygen

NO words are eliminated by the O clue “just because it’s not allowed to start with that letter” because it IS allowed to start with that letter.

(I would have thought O for Oxygen would also be illegal since it stands for Oxygen - in the same way if you use an acronym it cannot contain a word on the board. But would be legal for other words that start with O and related to oxygen / periodic table etc. can’t think of an example off the top of my head. Either way it was legal in the way Nich used it)

Yeah O for oxygen is a little borderline. Element symbols are a special case. I probably wouldn't clue it as a spymaster, to be on the safe side.
