dense makes me think space and chemistry

mercury is one of the solid planets, as opposed to the gaseous ones, and the density of chemical mercury is what helps thermometers do their thing iirc. i can't immediately think of something where the same would be true of lead since lead is heavy. it's...chemically dense, i guess

air could be? gas could be? i think with air it's more common to go "wow the air is thin up here", so dense could be the opposite of that. bottled gases are dense. there's the "dense vacuum of space" which isn't really dense, but i think that's a phrase

new york city is densely populated, though new york as a whole isn't as much beyond the city

contracts can be detail-dense. if you press on something that's dense, you won't get very far
