This is a new version of Chameleon, now with less snark!

In this version, we will just focus on giving clues and remove all discussion from the game.

Proposed format for discussion:
1. Mod for the round will rand category and word and pm the players
2. Players will post their clue in the thread
3. Once all clues are posted, each villager pms mod their vote for chameleon and chameleon pms their vote as well as what they think the word is
4. If tie in vote, then village loses (Up for discussion, but without posting I think chameleon has advantage in voting)
5. Reveal and score
6. Rinse and repeat; rotate mod each round between players so everyone can play

So how does this work, is there a website that we use?

I'm in, but maybe put my mod turn somewhere in the bottom half since it's my first time playing this.

any thoughts on scoring?

ideally as villager you vote the chameleon and village as whole votes out chameleon and chameleon doesn't guess the word

ideally as chameleon you guess the word or don't get voted off


current scoring:

villager:
* 25 if you vote off chameleon with your team and they can't guess word
* 20 if your team votes off chameleon but you don't and chameleon can't guess word
* 5 points if you vote chameleon but team doesn't
* 5 points if you vote chameleon but chameleon guesses word

chameleon:
* 20 points if you escape vote
* 10 points if you are voted off but you guess word
* 0 points if you are voted off and don't get word

for chameleon, there is no discussion, so it's just the clue so I'm not sure 20 points for binking a good clue vs 10 for figuring out the word from just clues is the right ratio...maybe 15 either way? or 20 either way? the point difference before was due to the skill in posting to avoid being voted even with a bad clue...now there is no discussion so it's just about the clue...also, figuring out the word is harder since no spew...so should be rewarded more if anything


for village, if chameleon gets word then low points should remain; maybe should be 10 points if you vote chameleon but team doesn't instead of just 5? other scores of 25/20/5/5 would remain...basically if you give a good clue that doesn't give it away and you find the chameleon then you get at least 10 points

That scoring seems fine.

thoughts on this:

chameleon:
* don't get voted off: 5 points
* guess word: 10 points
* both of above: 15 points

remember, you don't get to see votes before you guess word, so you don't even know if you were way off with your clue before guessing, so guessing is harder than normal with no spew, no indicators, no votes, etc


village:
* vote for chameleon: 10 points
* team bonus if chameleon is voted off and doesn't guess word: 10 points
* each villager vote for you: -1 point

harder to vote for chameleon with no posts to help, so more points guessing right
if your clue sucks and gets you votes, you get -1 point per vote to disincentivize clues meant to throw off chameleon and get people to vote for you so you get 10 points for voting chameleon while he only gets 5 and your teammates get 0

Because the village clues need to be somewhat more obvious, it will be a bit harder for the chameleons to escape, and easier for the chameleons to guess the word. However, if the points for guessing fall too low, the village is disincentivized to come up with challenging clues - they'll take the hit to get the capture points. So I think having the guess bonus at 10 seems about right. Similarly, the capture bonus can't be too high.

The escape bonus might be higher. The negative points seem good. I'm not sure what to think about individual points for voting correctly.
