Like you said though man it's not about the points. You are just trying to play good bridge and hit the overalls. Congrats on making d2 -- you should feel good about that at least. You had 3/4 sessions under 50. Next time make that 1 or 2 of 4, and feel good that you improved even if you dont get any points. I mean you would clearly feel worse if you played in a 0-500 game and crushed it right? Let good bridge be its own reward. Find a double squeeze, even if the opps' cards don't cooperate. Count down every hand and know that you didn't phone it in, even once.
I will say, though, that it is slightly incongruent with Swiss teams, which gives match awards. But I don't know how to fix this or if it matters. But like if Chuck is at all bent out of shape about it, imagine most of the people who ARE there for the points...
I had it in the back of my mind that anyone that made day 2 of a national pairs event auto got some points. But yes looking at the latest Silidor pairs finals, there were a few holes where people didn't get any points, which does make me feel better for some stupid reason.
My two biggest things at the moment for trying to improve is not phoning it in ever, which is hard, and learning the right times for aggression. I've toned down my aggression through the years, but starting to learn places where I need to pick it back up. Especially in this sort of game.
Partner didn't have his best game either, but is getting significantly better. I don't think our hotel being right next to a night club helped.
My partner was at the last 2 Ill regionals, you might know him Wetz
