^^ He's not too strong to splinter in a strong club system, in my opinion. With opener limited to a narrow, and not terribly high, range, that sort of problem is greatly ameliorated.

Chuck and I are playing precision. Chuck passes in 1st seat. Opps are silent. I think the vulnerability is r/w imps.

A Q
T 9
A Q T 8 6
A 9 7 5

I open 1, and chuck bids 1 (showing 0-7 hcp). It's never right to pass here right?

Secondly, I bid 2, to which chuck responds 2. Now what?

I would just pass. One thing to bear in mind is that partner was unable to open a weak two. That limits how good his spade suit can possibly be. No game seems particularly likely - in spades there will be too many losers and in NT hearts is likely to be pretty wide open and you probably don't have a suit that runs straightaway. It's possible you'll miss a game but I think it's quite a bit more likely that bidding again will get you too high and mess up your partscore.

Edit: Obviously I mean pass the second time. You shouldn't pass the first time for a host of fairly obvious reasons.

Edit #2: One other option you have is to treat this as a balanced hand and rebid 1NT over 1D. I would definitely do that at MPs.

IMO bid 1NT at your first rebid.

Passing the first time will be bad when partner is 6=4=0=3. Bidding 1NT gets you there; bidding 2D gets you to 2S or 3C, depending on your proclivities. Passing gets you a zero.

Meanwhile, when he is 3=4=2=4 you would like to be in notrump, which can happen over a 1NT or 2D bid, the latter only when he has 5-7 HCP.

i agree with the 1nt rebid the first time but would pass 2 spades also as this is probably a much safer spot at imps

Quick brag: just played a 74% at a local club game, but it was a STaC, so should hit the overalls pretty hard. Sweet!

We were at 76.98% with a round to go, playing a team with a 77.xx. They finished with a 63 or something. (6 rounds of 4 boards)

In precision, a reverse shows 5-4 shape an a max opener (15 HCP) right?

Is there an easy way to show 6-5?

Rebid the spades at your third turn.

open 1 spade and limit your hand first. partner can make moves if he has cards. in the form of precision i play 1 diamond can be as few as zero. orecision is a great system becuz opener gets to limit his hand in one bid leaving partner free to keep making forcing bids or just set the contract.

Except that it's at least a king too strong, in a strong club system.

I did. It's called the "Troll Club". Holding xxxx x AKxxx Jxx, the opening bid was one spade.

I suppose it does in standard precision.

I'd still lie and open a diamond -- this hand has the playing strength of a typical 5-4-3-1 fifteen count.

Bobo & Atak,

My P and I will be there for Red Ribbons and the NAP. If you want to play a ZIP (or if we fail to Q and have a free day), team game?
