PSB - Being Boring is fine, I know it already (Pop/Art is one of those really great Best Of albums, there's probably a good category of 'best of albums that really make the actual studio albums unnecessary for 99% of people' and it's definitely in it)

not a particular favourite PSB track of mine, I'd probably find it pretty hard to pick my favourite PSB song, they're one of those bands that goes underrated by srs music people but are actually super good

probably either Suburbia or What Did I Do To Deserve This?

I would totally have submitted Boredom, Tyler the creator had I not submitted it to another walrus very recently in a similar category

almost surprised PSB are particularly 'known' in the US

I think of them as an extremely English band who wouldn't necessarily play as well overseas

Agree completely. Think they are somehow viewed as a novelty band. Not sure why.

Odd factoid: Axl Rose is a huge PSB fan and said November Rain was somewhat inspired by Being Boring and a few other PSB songs

So many Gad-folk to battle.

Good result, though

yeah, my first formative music years were like 1989 to 1992, and i really enjoyed UK synthpop especially, so i got very into the Pet Shop Boys -- even have several of the books about them/their tours from that era back at my parents' place

the albums that mid-teens Gad played nonstop and knew by heart, and still mostly does:

Behaviour, Pet Shop Boys (also Please and Actually)
Technique, New Order (also Substance and Brotherhood)
The Innocents, Erasure (also The Circus and I Say I Say I Say)
The Breathtaking Blue, Alphaville
Hack, Information Society
Flood, They Might Be Giants
London Calling, The Clash
Upstairs at Eric's, Yaz (as they were called in the US)

all this from a tiny little coastal town with no music store in an era where the radio generally sucked and only 120 Minutes and Alternative Nation had any decent music on MTV

honorable mention in the above category to:

Schubert Dip, EMF
Doubt, Jesus Jones
The Globe, Big Audio Dynamite II
God Fodder, Ned's Atomic Dustbin
All Shook Down, The Replacements
Graceland, Paul Simon
Storm Front, Billy Joel
some best of album by The Monkees (Mike Nesmith is a helluva songwriter)

the foundation of all my musical taste comes from those fifteen or so albums

I always thought that they were a big success over here. Maybe it's a Canada vs US perspective thing.

Upstairs At Erics is a ridiculous record. So good. All that smooth music with Allison's soulful voice.

I saw a documentary on YouTube about Vince and Allison and how they got together. Worth the 30 mins or so watch

We should list our 10 most important records and let the fans decide who picked each one. Would the differences be that stark?

Fun idea. I'm sure some will be obvious (especially with recent comments in these walruses), but others would be trickier. If we happen to agree on an album, everyone else will have to guess which is the common one.

I'll need to think on my list.

Only one album per artist, I think.

Yes one album would make sense (although a few artists I could list multiple)
