In 7th place, scoring 5 points

nice enough when it was playing but left little to no impression
Spoiler:

Spoiler:
JMurder3, with Into the Surf by Foals

every time I put this on I think it sounds pretty decent, I literally turned it off 30 seconds ago and I couldn't sing a note

this is the SCP-055 of music

anyway I guess it's OK

Really? There's so much good country out there, as long as you stay away from the pop country stuff that Bloo mentions. I should make you a Spotify playlist

yeah I can dig it
Spoiler:

Spoiler:
CrimsonFox, with Look Out (Here Comes Tomorrow) by The Monkees

yeah this is pretty pleasant if super disposable 60s pop

slightly creepy with the whispered 'I love you' segments but I'll let it pass, the verses are nice and bouncy

one of those ones where I can really see that this is a good song that should be bang in my wheelhouse but for some reason I'm just not feeling it
Spoiler:

Spoiler:
Gadarene Prime, with Unspoken History by Alex Lahey

not sure what you're doing wrong here tbh, this shoulda been a slam dunk

can't put my finger on what it is at all, but the ones above this all grab me by the heartstrings and this doesn't

like this one musically more than I do lyrically, but damn do I like it musically
Spoiler:

Spoiler:
DonkDonkDonkDonk, with Something's Going to Come by Adem

yeah, this whole multilayered thing is super nice, I really enjoy the way the verses are quite conventional and then it just blurs into the much hazier, trippier chorus, whole thing really works for me

lyrics aren't much of anything but they're certainly not bad

could easily have shipped in past walruses I've run, but the podium here was super strong

you made me cry and it only got you third place I hope you are ****ing happy with yourself
Spoiler:

Spoiler:
xander biscuits, with Keep Me In Your Heart by Warren Zevon

oh god damn it

love me some Warren Z, I've got all his first 4-5 albums and loved his blend of top drunken singalong tracks (stuff like Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner or Lawyers, Guns and Money) and wistful melancholy drunken tracks (Desperadoes Under the Eaves is the epitome of this)

I got into him after his death so never really investigated any of the later stuff he was putting out for whatever reason

this is just a ****ing knife to the chest, and the video does not help

basically Hurt v2.0

but yes, very good, you are unlucky not to be winning this

you made me cry more and you still didn't win it so **** you
Spoiler:

Spoiler:
Gadarene Beta, with If We Were Vampires by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit

protip: do not put this song on when chatting on the sofa with your wife after a couple of beers

anyway, I've always loved Alabama Pines by Jason Isbell, but found the other songs of his I tried to be nowhere near the same league

but this is just ****ing outstanding, production is lovely and warm which somehow makes the whole thing even more bleak, and I love how the harmonisation only comes in on the choruses for maximum 'aw ****'

great song

still didn't win it

hahaha good work you just found me a new obsession brb streaming everything they've ever recorded
Spoiler:

Spoiler:
Girlfriendarene, with Crazy Feels by Oh Pep!

basically the second the violin came in I was thinking 'oh wow I'm going to like this'

but it's really the first swell into the chorus where this just goes from 'this is pretty good' to 'whoa wait a minute where has this been in my life before?', and then the second time they hit the chorus it just briefly cuts out to acoustic GOD I love this song so much

and THEN it cuts back with the change of vocal timbre for 'I'm feeling that things ain't been right/and they're gonna get worse if I don't give up the fight' and just beautiful in how it cuts from feeling all floaty and ethereal to suddenly really barbed and pointed, despite the fact that the fundamental song itself is a fairly conventional structure there's a real tonal variance throughout which I love

great song, if there's better than this submitted to the walrus then it's gonna be a ****ing great walrus

If We Were Vampires is just a stunningly beautiful song.

Bloo, have you heard any of the solo stuff from Jason Isbell's wife, Amanda Shires? She's really excellent. I'm pretty sure she was the harmony in the chorus of that song.

I'll post a couple of my favorite tracks of hers.
