Dizzyqtp, with Prepare the Masses by A Change of Pace
so I used to really hate emo as, first, a grungy teenager into metal, and then later a pretentious early 20-something into indie music, but in recent years I've really got into a lot of modern emo, stuff like Jeff Rosenstock and The Hotelier
and then this comes along and damn I'm back to remembering everything I hated about the genre
the music is pretty inoffensive, but the vocal style is nails on a chalkbald and the lyrics feel like they were written by an overwrought 16 year-old after watching Baz Lurhman's Romeo and Juliet
sorry, I put it back on to see if I was being harsh but had to turn it off after a minute, this is just awful

I thought you were being a little harsh as I was listening to this while reading your review. The beginning actually is kinda cool. But then he starts singing and reveals how indeed generic this is. I can't even say this song HAS a genre.
ok so we're two for two on 'songs from genres I used to hate but now like that have reminded me why I hated them in the first place'

Eric, with We're Gonna Love Tonight by Alan Doyle
so, yeah, I really like country music but I like it grimy and dirty
nothing particularly interesting in the lyrics or music to make it stand out, and it's all just super clean and overproduced and autotuned and I really don't enjoy that, although at least I can make it through the whole song unlike #11
I dislike this one for many of the same reasons I disliked the last one.

gosh is this overproduced
and the lyrics feel like they were produced by some kind of random inspirational quote generator, really not feeling them at all
I guess it manages to be slightly more musically interesting than the last one, but it basically sounds to me like a much less good version of Waving Flag (the greatest World Cup song ever btw)
yeah, my metal days are largely over now, and what I do enjoy tends to be the more ludicrous end of the genre, but this was OK, just never really going to be my thing
I really struggle to differentiate this from other similar metal bands but at least appreciated that it was relatively concise and not an 8 minute epic
