took me a little while to get into the vocals that I will term as 'sweary Dee-Lite' but actually there's a good range of emotion in there, and the song builds really nicely and I very much enjoyed the spoken word sections

maybe a bit further out of my wheelhouse than the podium, but a good shout

yeah this is a lovely warm slice of indie pop, maybe it could be a little less generic, maybe the lyrics could be a little more interesting, but maybe that'd take away from the simplicity idk

it's another one for that beach bar except this time I'd go home and buy the album

love the energy, love the HERE'S THE THING hook, love the chorus, love 'TRY A BIT HARDER LITTLE BIRD! IF YOU'RE IN BED THEN SOMEONE ELSE IS CATCHING WORMS!' which is properly channelling Alec Baldwin from GGR

ok, the bit where they slow it down doesn't do much for me, and most of the lyrics are a little too 'university socialist society thinking they're being super witty' but you can get away with a lot when your song is just this catchy and you've shoved this much energy into it

xander biscuits, with Wise Up by Aimee Mann

ok yes I am a bit of a sucker for female singers with pianos, the lyrics here are really quite sharp and a lovely contrast with the soft, angelic sound of the song, it does a nice job of continuously building at a relatively slow rate, and the 'just...give up' at the end is absolutely perfect

Agree with your take on that Sports Team song, Bloo; I wish the part where they slowed down was in more of a Carter USM style, but overall it's super fun and catchy and will probably follow a similar trajectory as Let's Dance to Joy Division for me

Meaning I'll get really sick of it after a short time in heavy rotation and then rediscover its pleasures periodically

already know what the winner is, and it's brilliant and I love it, but I've got to work out a few of the lower positions

btw, based on my post-walrus listening I can say that Crimson Fox got absolutely robbed in category one, it's been sunny over here in the UK and I spent one morning playing Jessica WJ on repeat for like two hours until my wife told me to stop

You called it a simple song...but it is actually deceptively complex built out of simple parts. It is just FILLED with awesome riffs from the whistling to the bassline to the melodies to the background singers to the tempo changes ...and it introduces each on their own and then throughout the song folds them into each other overlaping them in places....it's just so great how effortless it is!

Black Sabbath talked about how they did things like that. Doing a lot with a little.

the 'downtown baby' part (was going to call it a bridge but it's not, is it more of a countermelody?) is definitely my favourite part of the song
