Will be interested in the bored submission. I had 2 songs in mind and the one I left off probably fits your preferences better.

The song I submitted for repetitive/bored is the GOAT submission for this category and I will brook no dissent

(bwslim, I am positive that you will agree)

First song that popped in my mind is my favorite song by a particular artist. If it is that song, I agree, though I'm not sure that song is about boredom per se. Reveal will be interesting

Category 1

A song with some element of denial, self-deception, or refusal to accept something.

wide range of genres here, quality was pretty decent, even the worst song wasn't that bad

A song I don't know by a band I quite like, was hoping this would be a hidden gem. It was not.
Spoiler:

Spoiler:
Eric, with Victor by Blondie

wow, I can kinda tell this was off the same album as Atomic, but while that's a glorious piece of post-apocalyptic spiky dance, this is just...not doing anything for me. it's weird without actually being all that interesting, feels a bit too much like an over-earnest art student might have put it together as a really deep musing on something or other

why so srs?
Spoiler:

Spoiler:
KarmaDope, with Divide and Conquer by Epica

so, admission, I actually really enjoy ludicrous OTT metal band Rhapsody of Fire, because their high-fantasy metal is so incredibly gloriously mad that it comes back around to being a lot of fun again

and I was hoping this would scratch the same itch, but I'm not getting the same level of fun out of it, and so it's falling into that void where it's just too silly for me to take it seriously, but also not fun enough for me to enjoy it as a pure slice of silliness

also it goes on for ages with a broadly similar sound throughout, and I found myself just zoning out for a lot of the second half

one of two tracks I already knew, think this one could have been a fair bit higher if I hadn't already listened to it enough to be thoroughly sick of it, sorry
Spoiler:

Spoiler:
Girlfriendarene, with Let's Dance to Joy Division by The Wombats

this came out in, what, my first year of university? The Wombats played a gig for our end of year party, this song was on at every single indie night ever, and I went from thinking of it as a likeable enough piece of relatively disposable Scouse indie-pop to something that was getting a bit old to something that I would really quite gladly never hear again

ten years on it's now clawed its way back to 'oh hey, I remember this' but I never really liked it enough for it to spike proper nostalgia

would class this one under 'nice enough under the right circumstances but probably not something I'd actively seek out'
Spoiler:

Spoiler:
Dizzyqtp, with In My Head by Solstis feat. SANDS & Simona Shao

yeah I mean this sounds like something that'd come on at a bar, not an evening bar, but more like an outside beach bar, and I'd sit there with a beer in the middle of the afternoon and work up a minor buzz and nod my head along and enjoy it and feel like all is right with the world

but outside of that very specific instance it's just a nice enough song that I can't get super excited about

the other song I already knew, familiarity never tends to score that well with me
Spoiler:

Spoiler:
bwslim69, with House of Cards by Radiohead

and one that I couldn't really remember beyond knowing that I must have heard it, which is never a great sign. this was one of the songs from In Rainbows that just kinda passed me by at the time, and on second listen it still didn't really stand out to me that strongly

I mean, it's Radiohead, it's still a pretty good song, but I can't really ever imagine picking it out as one I'd want to listen to specifically

yeah I DO tend to find it hard to score things I know well myself. It depends on how deep the track is I think as opposed to "the most famous obvious hit"

on the other hand the debate is always..."Does this person even know this song exists?"

nice vibe, but wanted it to go somewhere more interesting
Spoiler:

Spoiler:
DonkDonkDonkDonk, with Unshaken by D'Angelo

really enjoyed the first minute or so of this, was really into the reverby campfire vibe, but then, idk, it didn't do anything to build more on that vibe

the lyrics aren't anything special, the song doesn't really develop much musically, and while it's a nice vibe it's not enough to carry the song on its own to me

also can't shake the feeling that it's a bit of a poor man's Sinnerman

this kinda thing doesn't usually play well with me, but I actually really enjoyed this
Spoiler:

Spoiler:
JMurder3, with I Feel Fantastic by Jonathan Coulton

yeah a lot of comedy songs end up being mediocre jokes set to mediocre music and so fail on both parts, but there's a few decent lines on this (I particularly enjoyed 'steak tastes better when I take my steak tastes better pill'), and musically it's really fun and bouncy and I generally enjoyed it

His songs shouldn't be as good as they are seeing as most novelty songs usually aren't
