Was he buried in a graveyard and pulled a string connected to the bell up by the gravestone? Lit the mmatch then saw he was in a coffin, screamed and eventually ran out of air?

Once upon a time, a terrible plague swept the realms. Daily the bells would toll to signify more death. The people would gather to learn who among had been lost, and who remained.
It was dusk when the cold peal of the bell sounded again. With the others, Aylrod went to the church to pray for the souls of the dead, and to watch the burials. Trying to see the faces of the victims in their makeshift coffins, he struck a match for a little light and a little warmth.
With a scream he dropped his improvised torch, then began to weep uncontrollably. Finally, the wracking sobs stopped. Looking around, he climbed in with the poor woman, and closed the lid. Half an hour later, he felt the box being lifted and moved, then lowered into its final resting place. He heard the thumps as earth poured in from above, sealing him in with the woman he could not live without.
