Who is your favourite? How many fans agree with you? We are here today to answer these questions.

Each entry is an ordered list of 5 incarnations of The Doctor. Each will be compared to four other reference lists of Doctors.

A submitted list will be scored as follows:
If a Doctor on your list does not appear on a reference list, he scores 0.
If a Doctor does appear on a reference list, he score 5-(difference in list position).

So, if you put Doctor A in position 4 and a reference list has Doctor A in position 4, he scores 5 points for you. If the reference list has that Doctor in position 1, he scores 5-(4-1)=2 points.

Okay. Cool. But what are these reference lists I've been talking about?

The first list is from an online survey of fans: The Digital Spy survey 2015. I think there were 15k responses, or thereabouts.

The second list was generated from a weighted average of your entries. If two or more Doctors had the same average, they were placed at the average position. Eg if the top two Doctors had the same total, for scoring purposes they both were placed at position 1.5.

The third list was also generated from your entries. The Doctor at position j is the Doctor who was most frequently submitted at position j. In theory, given enough entries, the same Doctor could be in all five positions. More commonly, however, multiple Doctors could be sharing a position. Your entries will be scored based on the nearest position your Doctor occupies in the third list.

The fourth list is my own top 5 Doctors. I suspect that, like with many other fans, my list leans toward when I started watching Dr. Who.

Whoever has the highest total score over all four rounds will be the winner.

I think this is very dependent on age - I grew up at the end of Baker & into Davison, who was the paradigmatic doctor for me. I saw him in John Lewis once. I think I'm right that it turns out he's a bit of an arse, whereas Tom Baker said this:

Very true about the age dependence. I saw this game as just a fun thing to do, rather than anything strategic.

I started watching at the end of Pertwee and beginning of Tom. I've always heard good things about Tom after his time as the Doctor. I believe he was of the opinion that the Doctor who followed him should be a woman.

tchaz, I think the score is correct, but I may have flipped the way I recorded scores from one round to the next. The score totals will be the same, but the way they show up under your name will be different. Most of the time I was trying to put how many points that the Doctor in the first column scored for you, but I may have put the score that you got for the Doctor you had in the column position. It works out the same, but looks different. Only in Round 3 would that not be the case, which is why I showed the results differently.

Something that I found interesting about this game is the players involved. None of the "usual suspects" showed up. filthy and kokiri have been in a game of mine before this, but not all of them. Off the top of my head, I don't recall if any of the others have been in a game of mine. Maybe the Euro football game.

I grew up during Pertwee. I don't even know any of the Doctors after Sylvester McCoy.

I think I am a little older than the average POGger.

I don't think I have seen a McGann episode, and have seen maybe one Eccleston.

That was it. They'd hoped to keep it going in america but both sides of the ocean rebelled.

After that McGann did Dr Who Audio dramas.

Ecklestone was probably better than the common imagination - he was followed by Tennant who imo was worse than popularly regarded but was high tempo to ecclestone’s more dour approach. Too many of tennant’s episodes were 75 minutes of getting into trouble followed by 5 of him walking round in a circle tAlking fast about how smart he was and then some improbable ending.

Smith/Amy pond/the other dude might be as good as any of the old stuff, imo, although Moffat’s cleverness is his greatest strength and greatest weakness.

I started with Tom Baker...the wide-eyed freaky teeth and curls.

My earliest recollection of an episode was Seeds of Doom...kind of like THe THing. Miners in the antarctic unearth some giant alien seeds that infect them. Patient Zero turns into a giant plant monster. Scared the **** out of me for sure. I was hooked.


Then I saw PErtwee episodes. Much more cerebral and the UNIT stories were amazing writing. From there I was lucky enough to see first American runs of Davison, Baker, and (well not so lucky to see) McCoy.

It has only been in recent years that I have been able to watch some Troughton and Hartnell episodes.

It was about 2005 I think when I wandered into a room at a con with a TV. There were these flying aliens bombarding Big Ben and lots of people running around. THen one of them called the other "Doctor". I lost my ****.
