it doesn't surprise me you'd pick this city, because (unless I'm remembering something I read incorrectly) it's supposed to have some of the most perfect weather in the world
much like San Diego

It seems pretty awesome on a lot of levels & am glad I had the privilege of drafting it
Write-up...some day? Work busy lately & any extra time at work is going toward the house hunt.
So many writeups behind.

Re: Around the world vacation -- Game thread
Bring the survival gear if you're going in time for the bears and birds. Although I suspect you'd have it anyway if you're going to Antacrtica.

Re: Around the world vacation -- Game thread
Write-up for pick #21:
Shut out of Chichen Itza and the Campeche area, but that doesn't mean I can't go on a kickass tour of Mayan ruins.
(Side note: made this pick without that much thought after a Halloween party. After research, holy **** this is amazing. I need to get my ass down to Guatemala.)
Tikal:
Xunantunich:
Zaculeu:
Uaxactun:
El Mirador:
Aguateca:
Copan:
Incredible.

Re: Around the world vacation -- Game thread
Back into the Pacific.
Pick #22: Rapa Nui (-109.4216)
Did you know these things have bodies too?
There are over 800 (!) moai statues here, but that's not all that's here.
Some great hiking views:
Moai looking down at the horses:
Beaches are isolated, but still nice:
I can also eat traditional food cooked on stones:
JM3 sure to be jealous of the sunsets here:

Re: Around the world vacation -- Game thread
Yeah, I liked the idea of Easter Island as a 24th pick because it was so far west of anything else I was looking at.

Re: Around the world vacation -- Game thread
eyebooger, Tikal is pretty awesome. And apparently the stuff that has been unearthed is only about ~10 percent of the still-existing structures; the rest of the buildings are buried by greenery and they don't want to expose them for fear of oxidation

Wanted to take it at #23, but there were too many people getting close.

That's crazy. Guatemala has definitely jumped in my "places I need to see" list.

I guess it's legit, unless someone drafts a bit further as xander said.
That being said, lolfilthy.

Re: Around the world vacation -- Game thread
so I think I am still allowed this but let me know
Grand Canyon, AZ
We're going all the way down and back up
Don't know what I'll do for my last pick, the last pick of the draft, maybe I'll just pick a nice resort between Grand Canyon and Vegas and surf the internet for a week

Interested to see how the Irish among us feel about my choice, which was a late audible on my part (was going to just be Dublin)
