Greenland was definitely different.

My only real experience in a place that:

What's really surprising is how loud those icebergs are when they break.

Re: Around the world vacation -- Game thread

I'll definitely be interested to hear about experiences of people who have been to some of these places. I don't think I'd have been to too many of these places if it wasn't for lolfilthy

Drafted countries chart was nice too eb

As long as you guys know that whenever you go anywhere you need to send me sunset pictures, I will consider this draft a success.

Re: Around the world vacation -- Game thread

definitely think that xander/eyebooger/Bloo are most on my wavelength in terms of the types of destinations that I, personally, would really enjoy, but everyone has done a nice, thoughtful job of putting together incredible dream vacations

i should do that favorite/least favorite for the second third of picks like eyebooger did

Re: Around the world vacation -- Game thread

Favorite/least favorite picks, 2nd round edition:

Biester
Favorite: Torres Del Paine (which is funny, because I'm down with your focus on interesting cities overall; runner-up either Rome or Munich)
Least favorite: Amsterdam (just feel like it's kind of an easy choice and, i've heard, not quite as magical to explore as some other European capitals)

eyebooger
Favorite: East Madagascar (runner-up might be Salta or Manau/Zambia; good mix of urban areas and wide-open spaces this round, though apparently i'm leaning towards the latter)
Least favorite: Agra/Delhi (mostly because I've already been there, so it doesn't hold as much allure)

Bloo
Favorite: ugh -- Istanbul and Iceland are two of my favorite places in the world, Beirut/Bled/Marrakech are all supposed to be amazing and are near the top of my personal travel list, I like the idea of the Baltic capitals a lot, and the Rhine Valley looks gorgeous. f u Bloo! I refuse to choose.
Least favorite: Jaipur (of the three cities I visited in Rajasthan, Jaipur was enjoyable but I liked Jodhpur and Udaipur better)

True North
Favorite: lots of great picks, probably Namibia with Crete or the Faroe Islands (or Dubrovnik!) hot on its heels
Least favorite: Zurich (although, again, my two friends who lived there for six months really enjoyed it)

JM3
Favorite: man, everyone basically killed it this round; I'll go Santorini with Cape Town right behind; Canary Islands also underrated, but I don't have a good sense how touristy they get with British holidayers or what-have-you
Least favorite: Barcelona (it's probably just me)

xander
Favorite: Okavango Delta (runners-up Palermo and Jotunheimen, but all choices are solid)
Least favorite: Petra (just because I've heard there's not a ton to do/see here other than the big famous thing, though if you spent the rest of your week exploring other parts of Jordan, i'm sure it would be a cool trip; i should revisit your writeup. also: i always forget how sort of small Jordan is; i think i bizarrely conflate it with Algeria or something in my head)

filthy
Favorite: Vienna (supposed to be awesome, and I've been really into Austrian wine lately; runner-up Costa Rica, Stockholm, or Paris)
Least favorite: New York City (mostly because it's so familiar for me; Miami and Bahamas also sort of meh but at least I could just hang out and play beach volleyball and eat ceviche)

Gad
Favorite: they're all my babies

Re: Around the world vacation -- Game thread

***ATTENTION***

just noticed on the spreadsheet that the Rounds 9-16 tab starts off with our Round 8 choices -- which makes sense as a marker for that sheet, but it means that several of my favorites or least favorites above actually came from people's Round 8 picks and are thus invalid for an overview of picks 9-16!!!

Here are the picks affected:

eyebooger: least favorite was Agra/Delhi; now it's, I dunno, Mumbai I guess even though Mumbai is supposed to be really cool

Bloo: least favorite was Jaipur, now it's Kilimanjaro, maybe? I'm not a big trekker

True North: Crete was a runner-up favorite, but i already named two other runner-up favorites, so that's fine

JMurder3: Santorini was my favorite; it's replaced by Cape Town and I'll add Prague as a runner-up

filthy: Stockholm was a runner-up favorite, but I named two other ones

MORE IMPORTANTLY, this means that eyebooger has not actually named a favorite among my 9th through 16th picks, since Kerala was pick 8. I trust you will remedy this post-haste.

Probably wise. This end bit already being over here seems like a bit of a cluster.

Oops.

In that case, I'd probably go with Shiraz. Was nowhere near my radar at all, but that write-up sold me.

I wonder, for example, what SIX (6) places between Mexico City & Las Vegas Biesterfield has in mind...

Maybe I'm jaded on it because I live here...

I can think of 4 places I'd go & only 1 I'd probably draft...

Was up to 8 things on my list of things to pick, now back down to 7, & I'm sure some more of them will go...

Was still about 5 picks from getting there, though.

I've been to 38 of the drafted ones and will likely drone on about some of them!

There is more than you think!

Seriously though my strategy evolved to being willing to take big jumps west to get premier cities knowing full well I might end up in this situation.
