A vanilla+ game has non-standard roles (i.e. roles different from vanilla villager, vanilla wolf, and seer) however the roleset is public, which is what separates the vanilla+ from the mish-mash.

yeah, basically this

the role set is pre-published, so you have no need to speculate about what roles might be in the game -- but there are some non-simple mechanics at work (vigs, roleblockers, and the like) to spice things up.

Vanilla is checkers
V+ is chess
Mishmash is Jenga with live lobsters
