I gave you an unlimited clue and you went ruler out of the blue

Trust me when I say unlimited and go for the words on your list.

You had foot somewhat maybe on your list or maybe not (wasn’t clear) so I purposely went for the most painful laser word possible

I didn’t go the obvious one: tag because that also gets foot

I didn’t go pointer or tattoo or surgery or LASIK or radiation etc because those all evoke anatomy

I didn’t go engrave because dresses get engraved

I went etched which only hits laser so you would go with the list as it was posted and not go foot...but then ruler came from nowhere

You wanted to get “the solve” but all you had to do was go laser then your own posted list, but y’all were never even close to even considering just going with your list on an unlimited clue

I’ve made my share of mistakes as well so I can’t be too mad.

It’s just frustrating when I give a clue that gets a long list then remove most of the bad from it and then you go off on a random direction instead of staying the course we had for the entire game.

I mean, it was hardly random. I thought the reason you chose etching was to hit a 2, & I thought ruler etching was a thing.

It's unfortunate irtm wasn't around so we couldn't discuss anything & maybe work through it, though.

I had clued all but laser

King was also ours as you knew once you guessed it.

So either I go 3 and you pickup king

Or I go 2 and you get those 2+ king

Or I go 1 and you get laser+king

Or if go unlimited and you get laser + go down the freaking list

There is no reason to go unlimited unless I want you going down the list. You know by now that I expect you to go down the list after laser so I don’t go unlimited if sweat and Canada aren’t ours.

Also turn 1 pony (not horse) express is 150 years old while Canada still has Mounties, but on turn one I expect you will do some I don’t like when I give a 7 clue so that’s fine

Not going down your list when a spymaster clues unlimited isn’t fine

We need 4 words to win. You can't differentiate between 1 & 2. Either way you need to clue unlimited.

I thought there were clearer words for laser +3 than that, but if me & irtm had gotten together & talked about it, maybe I would have changed my mind on that.

& we should have been more clear one way or the other on whether we were actually removing foot or not, I agree.

& there's also posts in horse jumping & horse racing.

Again, you know I’m assuming by going unlimited that you will go down that list so that’s what you need to do

@nich I think you’re being a bit biased being able to see the list. I’d never expect “etching” to ever be a 1 word clue for only “Laser” - I would have read that just like they did; a 2 clue + next 2 on list. I think that was a mistake as a clue.

It has nothing to do with bias

Unlimited means something; i had 6 options there and I chose unlimited for a reason

They’d been clued for 7 and only gotten 4 on their list, so they needed to go down the list 3 more times

If the next 3 aren’t ours, then I don’t go unlimited, period


If it’s ruler laser foot then I go Mercury - 3, for example


If their list is wrong and I can’t do a 3-word clue then I go 1 or 2 and they get those and make up long and we hope for one more turn


But when I go unlimited, it means go down the list because that is me saying you can go down the list

1,2,3,4,0 are all clue options if I don’t want you to go down the list

Clues have to have meaning or what’s the point, and unlimited has a meaning.

If you want to play differently as spymaster, that is your prerogative, but I play it this way and that should be obvious by now from the past 100 games and conversations like these.

Darn, this was a fun series that lasted 5.5 months and 20 games.

Thanks everyone for playing; I had a blast and enjoyed all of the teams I was on. Apologies for some of the post-mortem discussions. They were more out of a desire to discuss strategy and theory than anger or frustration. Also apologies for the dragon turn 2 games ago; we got lucky to win anyway but that was a bad mistake.
