ok, so this is a case of ya'll being new to codenames and not knowing the meta around here; no harm, but a good learning experience


we needed 3 words and I gave you a 2 clue, so that's what we call n-1 clue and means the top of your list is correct...so wind was correct as you guessed

however, your list was wind/mug

if BOTH were correct, then I do an unlimited clue to let you know to guess your list plus whatever I clue...so I go nose-unlimited and you go face + next 2 on your list

since I did n-1, the 2nd word on your list can NEVER be correct



also, I clued mole - 2 and I don't know how mug relates to mole? moles are in your yard and then moles on your face (like cindy crawford) as well as moles have faces

mug+yard woulda been something like chamomile or another tea flower to get mug and yard...but also it wouldn't be because it woulda been an unlimited clue for face, so nose-unlimited or similar

thoughts beyond that missed convention


1. after playing only pictures-only for the past few months, it was hard to change back to using words...I was just thinking of pictures constantly instead so thinking too literal to come up with good clues

2. I had a hard board so went with water - 9 in order to get a list of about 13-15 from ya'll and then give a 0 clue on turn 2...I figured you would go SHARK before DUCK since a shark is always in the water yet ducks are also on land and in the air...and shark is neutral so then I could clue off duck so we wouldn't give them a free word...no biggie, but with a 9 clue, the order may matter so think about what order I would expect you to guess because with a 9 clue some of the words on your list will be their word...anyway, this was a hail mary to see how ya'll did and then I could regroup with the rest as I just didn't have a 3-3-3 or similar grouping for our 9 words to win in 3 turns the normal way


2. Seattle - 0 is to remove words from your prior list and has to remove more than just Washington (or I clue George)...like Zurvan said, Seattle is a Port, so that should have been removed completely from your list, not just moved to the bottom. France is not a city like Seattle, so can't remove France

3. baguette was France+log like you got; good job...but your top of list from prior turn was yard so you should have guessed yard; best to not mix up lists and throw your spymaster curve balls; I was expecting you to guess 2 baguette words and then top of list here...yard woulda been good because then I go chapped-2 for face+wind instead of having to do mole for yard+face...so an easier clue...but also oil could have been wrong...it was 2nd on your list and so even if it were assassin I wouldn't have worried because I expected you to go with yard as top of list

4. My bad not going baguette - 3 since you often dip baguettes in oil...woulda been better to clue for 3 there, but I wasn't thinking of oil that way


overall good choices of words to guess, other than the n-1 vs unlimited part at the end

I should've gone Romano first, but that wouldn't have changed anything really. Mammoth is a **** word to get.

yeah I hate Mammoth...it's almost always Romano clue for me as well
