I think being a foreigner influences how friendly you find places. I found the US very friendly. The one thing I would say for Australia is that friendliness is always genuine, there's not the fakeness you get in places like California. Australians are culturally similar to New Yorkers, blunt but will reciprocate a friendly attitude if they get it.
Yeah, another thing that I found quite magnificent is that most people (can't speak for all) tend to separate work and home pretty strictly. I met people that wouldn't take a work call after hours because they weren't working at the time therefore it could wait until tomorrow.
Something like that is so so so so foreign for me. This area is so focused on living to work as opposed to working to live which is what it seemed over there. My parents will work from 6 AM to 5 PM and then work more once they get home, and even watching them do that drives me crazy.
Man, I loved Australia. Really hoping I get a chance to go back for an extended period of time.
