End of Day One
"It begins.
The great emptiness has made contact with our world, off in the distance. The swirling darkness moves swiftly through the ground, tearing apart mountains and bedrock, demolishing them and grinding them into nothingness. I can see this happening, and I struggle to remember how the mountains looked before they were destroyed. I cannot remember their shape.
The edges of this storm approach on all sides, to the north, and south, east, and west, and indeed from the sky as well. Most of the stars have been removed from our sight, swallowed by the dark.
Our vast army of assembled champions moves into a circled formation. The outer defenses will be front-line fighters, a phalanx of spear-and-shield men, comprised of our mightiest warriors, wielding enchanted spears blessed with magical light. Behind them will be our battalions of heroic slingers and javelinmen, each possessing thrown weapons which were crafted by the finest magesmiths, containing the most powerful elemental magic we can muster inside such a missile. Further back will be our ranks of swordsmen, swordmages, macemen, axemen, and melee fighters of all kinds. Each under the protection of spells from the immortals, granting them reprieve from pain, nonlethal injury, and weariness. They will protect our archers, and provide the middle line. In the final line of defense will be the bulk of our mages, sorcerers, wizards, healers, and summoners of all forms of magic power. This final line encircles our last hope, the Celestials. We must protect these Celestials will all of our might, for if they are lost, so is all hope.
If they truly are the Avatars of the Creator, then they will each possess a fragment of his spirit, and may hold within them the power to turn back the shadow.
Our army braces itself, as the mountains in the distance are swallowed up rapidly. The ocean surrounding our continent is pulled into the sky, resembling an inverted rainfall, and it vanishes into the void. The edge of the storm creeps closer, and closer, and closer....
In spite of the horrendously violent event, no sound is heard from within. Even the sound of the destruction of the ground and the ocean is swallowed up, and all that can be heard is the wind as the air rushes into the vastness of the void.
I cannot remember what the ocean looked like... whether the seas were blue, or green, or some other color. Now, all I can remember is the awful howling of the wind....
The storm creeps forward to meet our front-line fighters, like a great hurricane of grief and darkness.
From out of the tempest, comes rushing forth.... a sight unimaginable. I can scarcely describe what I am seeing.
It appears to be a vast wall of unspeakably hideous Beings of Shadow. They are shaped like all manner of crooked and bizarre reflections of the creatures of our own world, from mortal men to giants, dragons, and other beasts... but only their shadows. As such they move across the land with unnatural speed, moving unlike any natural creature, annihilating everything that they touch.
Our front-line fighters meet them head-on, and they are quickly overcome. Their weapons are nothing, their shields are no means of defense. They are slaughtered almost instantly, torn apart by the beasts and beings of shadow. Our javelinmen, archers, slingers, and mages fire into the wave of the massive army of shadow, each launching brilliantly bright missiles of all manner of elemental power. The first wave of our missiles reach their targets with precision.... and.....
....the army of horrors is utterly immune to our power. The creatures are undamaged. The stray bolts which veer into the storm of darkness are similarly swallowed up instantly, to no effect whatsoever. Within seconds, our outer defenses are completely gone, and now the army of shadow threatens to envelop the second line....
One of the Celestials steps forward, unwilling to watch the slaughter of our swordmages without intervening. The young woman, moved by our plight, wanting to keep our morale alive, begins to sing....
I cannot remember the words... they were swallowed up by the Void itself. But it was.... a song that captured the spirit of our struggle. I know that our fighters were moved by the power of the song, but more than that, as she sang the song, she began to radiate with otherworldly power...
From within her radiant spirit came a blinding flash, a bolt of indomitable energy, which moved across the battlefield faster than the eye could follow. It struck a blow deep into the lines of the Enemy. Several Creatures of Shadow were illuminated by this divine energy, and ceased their struggles. Others were simply thrown from the blast radius, and did not get up once they landed. Another bolt, and another radiant blast of brilliant light, and another blow struck against the lines of the Enemy. [I]This, the first glimmer of hope in an impossible struggle, would be what our fighters needed to carry on the struggle. In our darkest hour, this one lone ray of hope illuminated our path. If we were to have any hope of defeating this vast army of darkness, of penetrating the Void that lay beyond, we would need to keep our Celestials alive. Only they would be able to turn back the forces of Shadow.
But the forces of Shadow are relentless, and they now begin to tear through our inner defenses in pursuit of the young woman. One of the most massive and terrifying beasts of shadow breaks through to the last line, and emits a horrifying sound, and launches itself at her...
...The young woman is struck down by the Shadow, and was slain by the creature.
I must remember her name.... I will use all of my will to remember....."

Night One
"The death of Hope was a heavy loss for our cause, but at the same time, it seemed as though the impact that she had made on the outcome of our fight was enough that she would continue to inspire us all, even in death.
The hideous shadow creature which slayed our heroic Celestial turned, having penetrated all our lines of defense. It was just a question of which Celestial would be destroyed next.
It turned to face me, the Guardian Avatar of Memory. Although my part in our struggles is considered among the most vital, since I carry the memories of all the people who have ever lived or died, throughout our history, I knew that nothing else mattered here but victory. If I were to be slain, perhaps it would have helped matters.... I am not suited for battle anyway. I am merely an Immortal, not a Celestial. There's nothing I could do against such a beast.
But still, I am considered important to our cause. That is why it is not surprising that one of our fiercest Immortals attempted to intervene...
I did not know much about the young warrior maiden, only that she had inherited the title of Ambition. Masterful with the sword and the bow, she attempted to fly between us and fired volley after volley of arrows containing magical Light, each meeting their target. The Shadow was undeterred, and charged at me...
Begin Day Two
