For the record, I would disqualify The Dave Matthews Band and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, as they are bands and not solo artists.

Me too, but it's possible something related to this issue could be giving you a problem.

Also, it looks like you haven't checked your list against the Top 100 end of year lists? I just checked "Sunny" which is on your list, but it was on 1966 end of year list so wouldn't qualify.

I'm pretty swamped trying to put out some fires related to work so it might take me a day or two before I'd be able to dig in on this again. If the thread is still stalled I'll search through stuff at that time.

Maybe people are burned out on songs, but I'm going to try to kick start this back up by asking the next question myself.

Is the song on this list?

Took me longer to get to this than I thought but I did find one song that I think fits that wasn't on Bolt's list.

Napoleon XIV: They're Coming To Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!

Guy died earlier this year. The song was released July 1966. It peaked at #3. It wasn't on the year-end chart.

I'm assuming that if the artist is "PersonA & PersonB" then that is eliminated by the solo artist q. Only reason I'm wanting to clarify is about the note to bolt that "something related to this issue could be giving you a problem" so I'm wondering if I'm possibly overlooking the same thing here.

Finally!

It's appropriate for this to be finally solved today, as the first time I heard it was on a late night oldies program when I was 10 years old or so, while staying at my grandmother's house, and it scared the $hit out of me!

The narrator is taken to the insane asylum when he goes crazy after being left by his...

dog

I thought it could have been overlooked as a solo performer as it's a pseudonym and may have looked like the name of a band rather than a person.

Nice find!

I never would have imagined that that song hit #3 on Billboard.

I thought it was just a novelty song like "Dead Puppies" and "Fish Heads" that was only played on Dr Demento.

Nice! Yeah I'm glad I googled the name Napoleon XIV as I wasn't sure if it was a solo person or a group.

Another one I thought might have been it for a bit was a Wild Thing cover by "Senator Bobby featuring Bill Minkin" when I discovered that Senator Bobby is basically a character played by Bill Minkin (if I'm understanding it right). But then he was still alive so it couldn't have been him! Turns out Frankie Valli is still alive as well which eliminated his songs.

Not only is Frankie alive, he got married earlier this year! He's 29 years older than his bride, but she's 60 herself, so I guess we can't call it robbing the cradle.

Random question, I was going to do Microsoft Excel as my answer. But I couldn't really decide if it's a thing. How would you have stated #0 for that? Software seems almost too specific? But maybe not. There's a lot of software out there.

Yeah it's tricky how to categorize software. It'd be hard to argue with "Thing" I guess, but I think we'd burn a lot of questions before realizing it is software. But then excel should be able to be gotten pretty quickly once we know it's software I'd think.

It seems a little tricky for this category to ask a q that is unambiguous when you are starting off, but let's try this.
