Just asked filthy and he doesn't have one (unless google nest counts). That still doesn't really help answer that question though lol.

16 is what's really getting me

I could see stuff like a camera, a radio of some kind, not an electric toothbrush...

used for hygiene/health care/eating/cooking but not found in kitchen so seems more likely to find in bathroom/bedroom?

could be a mirror of some kind but it's not found in hotels so that's out

yea kinda stumped atm

I find it hard to imagine a health/hygiene related item that would also be appropriate as a secret santa gift.

So I'm thinking something related to food or eating, but that you wouldn't usually keep in the kitchen.

Maybe something like a candy dish or fruit bowl. Would those sometimes have writing on them? But some of those are metal.

I still don't see why it can't be a thermometer. Whether or not filthy has one is totally irrelevant to the question.

And tbh, the answer to that is probably gonna be a no regardless of what this ends up being.

Clarification: For Q13, does "appropriate for Secret Santa" basically mean "not inappropriate"?

If it's just something that would be weird (but not workplace taboo) for Secret Santa like a flag of New Mexico or a 10 pound bag of chocolate sprinkles, would you have said that this was appropriate or not?

I can't imagine that being an appropriate secret santa gift.

Unless I guess you worked somewhere that required daily temperature checks as a Covid control?

"Appropriate" could mean 2 different things, as eb just mentioned.

I'd argue that fails the "most American households" test.

Before Covid, I would have considered a thermometer to be an inappropriate workplace gift in both senses mentioned. It's not just weird like a state flag, it could easily be seen as a passive-aggressive comment on someone's health or related behaviors.

The only reason I waiver post-Covid is because I worked at a place in 2020 where we were given thermometers and requested to check our temperature before work each day.
But if it were a thermometer, and I were the answerer, I still would have answered it was not an appropriate SS gift.

I'm going to go ahead and do a 50/50.

Is it used for or related to hygiene or health care?

Ah I see, yeah I think the answer has to be yes.

It's not found in the kitchen so it won't be used for cooking.

Yeah, I don't think this is a 50/50 at all.

Probably more like 90/10.

The wife recommends the following clarification since we have different opinions on weather beverage related activities are part of 'eating' in this context.
