Maybe we should ask UD to clarify if he stands by the wording of his previous comment...because it technically can't be any Dead Kennedys song if he used precise wording when he said:

This 20q is shaping up to be a disaster.

Ok, so that leaves Holiday in Cambodia & Kill the Poor.

I think we guess them in that order & if we're wrong, oh well.

I'm sure there's reasons but what about ZZ Top or The Beach Boys?

If it's either of those, then he made a mistake way back in Q2 (says song released before 1980).

Both those bands are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I'm starting to think that artistic works are not good sources for 20 Questions, especially music. Songs are so tied to an artist, it is practically necessary to identify the artist first. That is basically a 20Q on its own (with a small head start). If the artist/song is well known enough, there are likely to be many songs to sift through for that artist - another half game,or so. If either (both) is (are) obscure, then it's even worse, possibly.

The last two song-based 20Q have been rough, and I think this is why.

UD - does this update change your answer to Q2?

Yep, I mixed up recorded and released. I'll just say that it was released in 1980.

An honest enough mistake to make, this just happened to be a corner case where it mattered.

Kill The Poor or California Uber Alles are both very close, but still neither quite fits the information we've been given. I honestly think it probably is one of those two songs though, and there was at least one more mistaken answer or hint somewhere.

Kill The Poor wiki page says it was recorded in 1980. CUA says released in 1979. Although the "album version" of CUA was not released until 1980, and accoreding to wikipedia also was recorded in 1980. The only way that would work is if he was thinking specifically of the album version, but then somehow saying "the song" was recorded in an earlier year, because the "single version" came out before 1980.

Maybe could be "Police Truck", the b-side of Holiday In Cambodia? Wiki doesn't say when it was recorded, but it could have been recorded in 1979 along with HIC.

Kill The Poor says specifically recorded in 1980, so that doesn't work.

There's nothing I see tying it to 1979 & I don't think a B-side qualifies as a single, but not sure about that definition.

No, nothing on the wiki page says 1979, but he may know when it was recorded from other sources. And it would make sense for both sides of the single to have been recorded at the same time. The b-side is listed on the discography page, so I think it would qualify. As far as I can tell, Police Truck is the only DK that could possibly be correct, if there were no more mistakes made in answers or hints.

Some online references even show Police Truck as the a-side of the single:

Kill the Poor was recorded in March 1979 as a live performance, so I think that would qualify on all levels.

I don't think so, as the live performance wasn't released in 1980.

I think all of the songs mentioned were also recorded in demo form in 1978 and released many years later, and were probably all recorded in that 1979 live performance as well.
