Spade #2 Game of Mafia Champions (WW Invitational) - Game Thread

Welcome everyone to the game thread for the second game of the Game of Mafia Champions series.

You have all been invited to this game for one reason and one reason only: You are champions, you are experts and you are gifted. I did my research and scoured through all the corners of the internet in order to locate the very best mafia players out there. Simply put, you are at the top of the heap.

You all originate from vastly different backgrounds and as a result you have a different set of strategies, standards and rules for how the game is played. You even represent a bunch of different nationalities and demographics. I already predict that these countless differences will lead to frustration. However, my hope is that you will ultimately embrace these differences because one thing is for certain: You are all here because you have proven capable of successfully commanding respect and adapting to the games in your respective mafia communities. Therefore you have earned the honor of representing these communities in this unique cross-forum mafia game. But with this privilege also comes responsibility: It is up to you to prove that your site should be taken seriously!

It is now time to see if you can adapt to an environment purely consisting of the best of the best. Maybe this will be a learning and/or humbling experience for many of you.

It is still NIGHT, you may not post

Re: #2 Game of Mafia Champions (WW Invitational) - Game Thread

Rules for the Champions Game
  • Only post / talk about the game in this thread. Don't PM other players. Don't post anything about the game in other threads or on other forums. Except for the evil team (or any masonries that might exist). They can chat privately at any time.
  • Don't edit your posts. The idea is everybody gets to see the same information in the thread. You are allowed to link to images, videos, etc., but don't change them. Again, everybody gets the same information in the thread.
  • Don't try to use the form of your role PM. So a screenshot of your role PM would be cheating. As would discussing the time stamp of your PM
  • When the thread is open and the moderator has announced DAY you can post in it. But only as long as you are a live player. No dead posts, please.
  • Vote by bolding a name. To change votes just bold a different name, or unvote. Vote counts will show how much time remains in the day. Votes in the final minute (:00) of day will count. :01 votes won't be counted.
  • This is a game of lying. Players are expected to lie. No statement or promise a player makes within the game has any force outside the game. As an example, a bet offered in a game is not something you can collect if you win. (We usually prohibit offering wagers in our own games, necessary since so many players here are poker players.)
  • If you have any questions about rules, send a PM to this account. We'd be happy to help. You should not be asking the mod questions in the thread

SPECTATORS

Spectator chat on Skype

If you're reading along with this game and you're thinking "Man, I wish I could talk to some like minded Mafia fanatics about these people", then you're in luck! There is a group chat on Skype that will be spectating and talking about the game. Dead players are added to this too.

If you wish to be added, then add this Skype nick: thingyman

Game summary

Day 1Day 2Day 3Day 4

Re: #2 Game of Mafia Champions (WW Invitational) - Game Thread

Setup

There are 25 players in the game.

Potential power roles in the game (roles not listed here are NOT in the game!)
  • Affiliation seer/cop (is only informed if peeked person is good/evil)
  • Angel/doctor (may self protect - may not protect the same person twice in a row)
  • Bodyguard (may choose to act as a bodyguard for a person, if that person dies at night, they die instead - may not target the same person twice in a row)
  • Bulletproof (cannot die at night)
  • Full seer/cop (peeks true role, both affiliation and powers are revealed)
  • Jack of all Trades (has an assortment of 4 powers and uses one per night: Peek, Vigilante kill, Role block and Angel/doctor save)
  • Lovers (24 hour chat, know who each other are, both die when one is killed)
  • Martyr (can kill someone after they've died)
  • Masons (24 hour chat, know who each other are)
  • Oracle (can consult the dead - sends one message to a dead villager per night)
  • Poisoner (can target someone for death, person dies the next night)
  • Prostitute (can both angel+role block someone - may not use this power on the same person twice in a row)
  • Randomizer (can target someone to have their night action randomized - may not use this power on the same person twice in a row)
  • Redirector (can target someone and choose who their potential night action should be redirected to - may not use this power on the same person twice in a row)
  • Role blocker (can target someone who will get their night action blocked - may not use this power on the same person twice in a row)
  • Role thief (this person starts the game with the option to steal someone's powers before role PM's were sent out to other players)
  • Survivor (wins if he survives the game and village wins)
  • Tracker (sees who player X visited, i.e. who player X used their potential night action on)
  • Vigilante (can target someone for death at night)
  • Watcher (sees who visited player X, i.e. who - if any - used their night action(s) on him/her)
There may be further limitations on these roles, such as only being able to use them on odd or even nights, or only until a certain number of players remain, or limited number of uses.

If you can think of a restriction, odds are, it's been done.

Order of night actions
Role blocker/Prostitute
Redirector
Randomizer
Oracle
Angel/Doctor/Bodyguard
Seer/Tracker/Watcher
Kills

Clarification on potential role blocker/prostitution issues:
Role blocker/Prostitute A -> Role blocker/Prostitute B -> Player C

With the above example role block A goes through and role block B doesn't (so C gets his action).

General notes on the setup and its implications
  • There are no roles which affect the validity of peeks.
  • There are no neutral roles or factions.
  • There are no roles which affect the lynch or the death reveals.
  • There are no lost mafia, meaning mafia members who aren't already a part of the main mafia team.
  • There are no revival mechanics.
Role reveal

Upon death a person's full role will always be revealed.

Win conditions

Win condition is for the village to eliminate the mafia and the mafia to achieve parity with the village. Parity for the purpose of this game will be when the number of mafia equals the number of villagers and there is no way for the village to win the game.

And now, for our players:

#1 Player: Belphegoob

Username for this game: Bell

Representing: Naruto Forums

Started playing in: 2011

Qualifications:
Belphegoob was a force to be reckoned with already in his very first mafia game for which he was crowned MVP. Since then he’s cemented a reputation as a top tier player on Naruto Forums and as a result has been nominated for such awards as Best Player (2013), Best Scumhunter (2012+2013), Most Evil Player (2013), Rising Star (2012), Best Mafia/Smooth Criminal Award (2012), The Godfather Award (2012) etc. None of these ever made it to the voting stage though.

#2 Player: BLFG

Username for this game: BLFG

Representing: Vendetta Strada

Started playing in: 2011

Qualifications:
BLFG was voted in to act as the sole representative for Vendetta Strada.

One of BLFG’s strongest strengths and plusses on his resume is the fact that he practically never gets lynched. He has only been lynched twice as town (once he lynched himself for a reason, and another time the mafia quickhammered him at lylo). In addition, on his home site of Vendetta Strada he has never been lynched as mafia.

BLFG has played ~30 games on Vendetta Strada and ~25 games on Team Liquid.

Bio:
"You either love him or you hate him (sometimes during the same phase)! Very aggressive, very active and very vocal about his suspicions. Dangerous for you if you do not share the same affiliation. Sometimes has serious problems communicating with other players. Whatever happens in the thread, BLFG will have a part in it!"

Started playing in: 2009

Qualifications:
Chips Ahoy was voted in to act as a representative for Puzzles and Other Games.

To put this into perspective, nobody else with 20+ village games holds a perfect record in this regard.

He was voted the 2nd best villager in the 2011 Power Rankings, the number 1 villager + 3rd best overall player (tied) in the 2012 Power Rankings, and finally the 3rd best villager and 6th best overall player in the 2013 Power Rankings.

#6 Player: CPHoya

Username for this game: CPHoya

Representing: Sporting Events

Started playing in: 2009

Qualifications:
CPHoya has shown incredible consistency throughout his 130+ played games.

He is especially known as a good mafia player which shows in his stats: He holds the best record for survival as mafia out of anyone with 10+ vanilla games played with a 50 % survival rate.

In addition to this, he has received several accolades. He was voted the number 1 overall player, the 2nd best villager and the 4th best mafia player in the 2012 Power Rankings. His status as a consensus top tier player remained intact for the 2013 Power Rankings as well where he was voted the 2nd best mafia player and the 4th best overall player.

Bio:
“As a villager I believe it is more important to accurately clear villagers than it is to find wolves. I am excellent at interpreting interactions in order to clear villagers, and tend to clear myself via interaction as well. My wolf reads, like anyone's, are only as excellent as the game allows them to be.

As a wolf I believe that if the seers / variance are removed early, I will ~ always win. I see no reason to disagree with that position. When wolfing I am committed to clearing my teammates through interactions, and/or myself, and even more committed to establishing end-game options for our team.”

Username for this game: Crabby_MyBB

Representing: MyBroadband

Started playing in: 2011

Qualifications:
Crabby was voted in to act as a representative for MyBroadband.

Bio:
“My main strength is in the analysis of what's happening within game. I take copious notes, detailing as much information as possible which I always have on hand when composing my posts. I liken playing mafia to a chess game, where I have to think many moves ahead, knowing that my opponents are thinking just as many moves ahead as am I.”

Other times I might just put a vote up with no explanation to see who questions it first.”

#20 Player: Top Tier Tom

Username for this game: Top Tier Tom

Representing: The Millennium Forums

Started playing in: 2012

Qualifications:
On The Millennium Forums they have a thread titled “Name TMF’s 5 Strongest Mafia Players”. Not only is Top Tier Tom the person most frequently listed as number 1 on people’s lists, he is also the only person to be on every single top 5 list.

Bio:
“I started playing mafia games on this site (TMF) in 2012. The concept immediately appealed to me, because lying is fun, and exposing someone else's lies is even more fun. I started to take mafia games more seriously because one of my peers told me that there's no such thing as a skilled mafia player. I wanted to prove to myself that this wasn't true. If I have a strength, it's that I get obsessed with games and refuse to give up.”
