Welcome everyone to the game thread for what shall henceforth be known as the inaugural Game of Mafia Champions.

You have all been invited to this game for one reason and one reason only: You are champions, you are experts and you are gifted. I did my research and scoured through all the corners of the internet in order to locate the very best mafia players out there. Simply put, you are at the top of the heap.

You all originate from vastly different backgrounds and as a result you have a different set of strategies, standards and rules for how the game is played. You even represent a bunch of different nationalities and demographics. I already predict that these countless differences will lead to frustration. However, my hope is that you will ultimately embrace these differences because one thing is for certain: You are all here because you have proven capable of successfully commanding respect and adapting to the games in your respective mafia communities. Therefore you have earned the honor of representing these communities in this unique cross-forum mafia game. But with this privilege also comes responsibility: It is up to you to prove that your site should be taken seriously!

It is now time to see if you can adapt to an environment purely consisting of the best of the best. Maybe this will be a learning and/or humbling experience for many of you.

Rules for the Champions Game

• Only post / talk about the game in this thread. Don't PM other players. Don't post anything about the game in other threads or on other forums. Except for the evil team (or any masonries that might exist). They can chat privately at any time.
• Don't edit your posts. The idea is everybody gets to see the same information in the thread. You are allowed to link to images, videos, etc., but don't change them. Again, everybody gets the same information in the thread.
• Don't try to use the form of your role PM. So a screenshot of your role PM would be cheating. Paraphrase the contents. There are no restrictions on claiming your role name.
• When the thread is open and the moderator has announced DAY you can post in it. But only as long as you are a live player. No dead posts, please.
• Vote by bolding a name. To change votes just bold a different name, or unvote. Vote counts will show how much time remains in the day. Votes in the final minute (:00) of day will count. :01 votes won't be counted.
• This is a game of lying. Players are expected to lie. No statement or promise a player makes within the game has any force outside the game. As an example, a bet offered in a game is not something you can collect if you win. (We usually prohibit offering wagers in our own games, necessary since so many players here are poker players.)
• If you have any questions about rules, send a PM to this account. We'd be happy to help. We don't read the thread so we won't see your questions if you post them.

To be clear: This also means that you cannot talk about the time stamp of your role PM.

Setup

There are 26 players in the game.

Potential power roles in the game (roles not listed here are NOT in the game!)

• Affiliation seer/cop (is only informed if peeked person is good/evil)
• Angel/doctor (may self protect - may not protect the same person twice in a row)
• Bodyguard (may choose to act as a bodyguard for a person, if that person dies at night, they die instead - may not target the same person twice in a row)
• Bulletproof (cannot die at night)
• Full seer/cop (peeks true role, both affiliation and powers are revealed)
• Jack of all Trades (has an assortment of 4 powers and uses one per night: Peek, Vigilante kill, Role block and Angel/doctor save)
• Lovers (24 hour chat, know who each other are, both die when one is killed)
• Martyr (can kill someone after they've died)
• Masons (24 hour chat, know who each other are)
• Oracle (can consult the dead - sends one message to a dead villager per night)
• Poisoner (can target someone for death, person dies the next night)
• Prostitute (can both angel+role block someone - may not use this power on the same person twice in a row)
• Randomizer (can target someone to have their night action randomized - may not use this power on the same person twice in a row)
• Redirector (can target someone and choose who their potential night action should be redirected to - may not use this power on the same person twice in a row)
• Role blocker (can target someone who will get their night action blocked - may not use this power on the same person twice in a row)
• Role thief (this person starts the game with the option to steal someone's powers before role PM's were sent out to other players)
• Survivor (wins if he survives the game and village wins)
• Tracker (sees who player X visited, i.e. who player X used their potential night action on)
• Vigilante (can target someone for death at night)
• Watcher (sees who visited player X, i.e. who - if any - used their night action(s) on him/her)

There may be further limitations on these roles, such as only being able to use them on odd or even nights, or only until a certain number of players remain, or limited number of uses.

Clarification on potential role blocker/prostitution issues:
Role blocker/Prostitute A -> Role blocker/Prostitute B -> Player C

With the above example role block A goes through and role block B doesn't (so C gets his action).

General notes on the setup and its implications

• There are no roles which affect the validity of peeks.
• There are no neutral roles or factions.
• There are no roles which affect the lynch or the death reveals.
• There are no lost mafia, meaning mafia members who aren't already a part of the main mafia team.
• There are no revival mechanics.

Role reveal

Upon death a person's full role will always be revealed.

Win conditions

Win condition is for the village to eliminate the mafia and the mafia to achieve parity with the village. Parity for the purpose of this game will be when the number of mafia equals the number of villagers and there is no way for the village to win the game.

Askthepizzaguy has tons of experience having played in about 200 games and hosted well over 50. He is regarded as the top player on Totalwar where he is also the guy in charge of the mafia subforum. One of his impressive statistics on this forum is having won 11 out of 14 wolf games, surviving 9 of those.

In addition to this, he is well respected on other forums and was in fact one of the top suggestions on Idlemafia, Giraffeboards and Straight Dope where he has also played.

Qualifications:
When I polled members on BoardGameGeek, several of them refused to give me a ranked top 3 - they instead pointed me right to the clear number 1: Avin. This is substantiated by his many Wolfy Awards: Player of the Year (2010), Player of the Year (2011), Best Performance as an Outed Evil (2010), Best Performance as an Auxiliary Evil (2010), Best Performance as a Good Special (2011). He has been less active recently, but still was nominated for Best Performance as a Villager and Best Performance as a Max Evil for the 2012 awards.

Avin is also very experienced with more than 200 games under his belt.

#4 Player: captain binkles

Qualifications:
Despite playing his first game on this forum as late as in 2012, captain binkles already has about 100 games' worth of experience and is now considered by many to be the best player to have started playing here in 6 years, if not just the best outright.

captain binkles was drafted in the first round of a big mafia draft last year - out of a pool of 1500+ players to have played on this site. To help me decide who should represent Two Plus Two, I polled all the first round picks in this draft on their preferences and captain binkles was voted by every single person except one which is what allowed him to participate in this game.

Furthermore, captain binkles was ranked as the number 1 villager, the number 1 mafia and the number 1 overall player in the 2013 Werewolf Power Rankings.

#5 Player: chrja

Qualifications:
chrja is from Denmark and is the only player in the game to represent a foreign mafia site. I created a thread on PokerNet and the backing for chrja was so overwhelming that nobody else even bothered to run against him (at least not in a serious manner). To name some accolades that he's received, he won the award for Best Mafia in 2011 and was furthermore nominated for Best Villager and Best Overall Player that year.

Also, chrja has experience playing on this site as well (50+ games).

#6 Player: Cyan

Qualifications:
After consulting some of the players on MTG Salvation who seemed to be highly regarded, several of them mentioned Cyan as part of the top tier. After taking a look at the yearly MTGS Mafia Awards, this seemed to be the truth: Best Newcomer (2006), Player of the Year (2008), Best Town Performance (2012), Best Town Player (2012).

Also, Cyan is currently representing MTG Salvation in another cross-site game as well, featuring some of the best players of MTG Salvation and mafiascum.

#7 Player: devourer359

Qualifications:
I privately polled 10+ Kongregate members and devourer359 ended up being tied for second place. Admittedly, Vara was the first pick, but after he/she had to drop out, devourer359 valiantly agreed to step up to the plate.

"I won't detail my playing style and strengths, as I'd rather not give anything away here and because my account would likely be biased anyways. Besides, my style will become clear as time progresses."

#8 Player: DrippingGoofball

Qualifications:
DrippingGoofball is known as both a fun and a good player having won as diverse awards as Funniest Player (2006) and Funniest Roleclaim (2007) on one hand and then also having won Best Town Performance (2011) and Best Mafia Performance (2011). His performance often leads to him getting nk'ed early, hence his undertitle "Mafia Piñata".

He has also been chosen to play in the previously mentioned cross-site game with players from MTG Salvation and mafiascum.

Qualifications:
fank009 is one of the more unique stories in that he is relatively new to the game and has never really settled down on any one forum. Instead he quickly gained the reputation of being the best player amongst cyberscore's mafia community and then moved on to Elite where he was invited back to play after strong performances. He then played on Mario Kart MB and finally Ninsheetmusic to further test himself and learn about the game with great success. His adaptability has proven to be one of his strongest strengths which is something that is vital for this game.

"I focus on the words/actions and how the psyche of the player affects how they play, as to whether they are scum or not."

#10 Player: Fat Tony

Qualifications:
Fat Tony was hand picked by the guy who runs MafiaManiac to represent his site. The reason for this is probably that he has 7 MVP's and both the Brando 2011 and 2012 award (awarded for Best Mafia Play) to his name.

"I think one of my main strengths is that I play with confidence, as if I know everything which works if I'm right but if I'm wrong then I get cut out."

Foolishness has supposedly won a Best Town Game Award, albeit it can't be tracked down. It seems likely enough though, given that he has one of the highest town win percentages on TeamLiquid and has never been lynched as town. In any case, he was also recommended by everyone that I asked on TeamLiquid.

marvellosity came highly recommended by well respected players from the TeamLiquid mafia community. Furthermore, he got 2nd place in the Best Town Game award that Foolishness won, and he's also been known to mentor newbies.

marvellosity is also known as an absolute top player on OMGus.net where he plays as "Kira".

Qualifications:
mastin2 is currently nominated for Professor Mafia on mafiascum. This isn't any coincidence as mastin2 is widely regarded as one of the best theorists on the game in the mafiascum community. He even has plans for writing a book on the game.

He is also known as a top player amongst the ComicFury mafia community.

Bio:
"I am a player who sees things from an unusual (and even controversial) viewpoint, and this ability gives me the ability to pick up on what others miss--as a result, I tend to work well with others who see things more "conventionally" so that we form a good team."
