If there was one thing you could steal from any opponents game (NL primarily, but PLO is allowed as well), whom would it be from, what and why? Granted if you thought there was something you could steal and put to use. Could be anything really.

This sounds pretty silly, but I know for a fact that I can beat NL50 HU over a larger sample, once had the graphs to prove it as well. Played drunk, busted roll, used up life-roll etc and am now a broke student. Can't really be arsed to grind the lower micros to build a roll, would you just quit poker at this point or try and grind up a bankroll on the side and deposit when you have enough BIs to start grinding NL50 hu?

vids from any of the bigger names are generally good

do u feel the same about this hand?
It really depends on how ivey plays the river here, if for example he bets as wide as AA then checking is clearly better. If he checks back a low flush but calls a normal sized bet then clearly bet is better.

IF you cant answer all that, I understand. Thanks again!
Most likely a polarized range, meaning to say I wouldnt 3bet QT etc. ****ty Ax or other hands that have some card removal probably... I might flat a big hand depending on how he plays postflop.

There's no particular secret, no real shortcuts. It's the same thing as the difference between 5/10 and 25/50 players: A lot of everything.

I can't remember any from 2/4 in particular, but while moving up in low limits/low midstakes I realized that bluffing ppl off top pair really wasnt a good idea.

I don't have a routine for playing; I used to just play on a laptop but now I have a big desktop that I use primarily for poker in addition to a laptop.

You mentioned before that it good time to start learning HU PLO.

Do you think that it is possible to gain bigger edge over the player by playing HU PLO or the edge is comparable to the HU NLH?[maybe lower?]

How many hands do you have to play in HU PLO to claim that you are a good, winning player?

Any other interesting comments regarding HU PLO?

Thank you for all the answers.
edges are more likely to be bigger in plo than nl

I have no idea >_<. 200k?

HU plo seems like lower variance than 6max plo, but then again I havent played much of either.

1 Theory question...

Lets say you opening 85% on the button and villain starts to 3bet you around 25% he is pretty decent player post flop.

Do you drop down your opening range?

Start mini raising?

What range do you start defending?

Here is the part which is confusing. Some good players advising to fold pretty a lot of hands while others saying we are getting 2-1 so vs 25% 3bettor we have position so we should be calling a lot of hands because we are getting 2-1.

Thank you
almost anyone , If I think the other guy is very likely better than me I won't play him

Most ppl and table selection varied depending on how well I was running.

Both adjustments are fine in addition to widening defending range slightly.

You don't want to defend so wide that youre going to be beat too badly in non showdown. The power in having the initiative (in this case resulting from a 3bet) can be expressed by the example where guy A has initiative (for ex, 3bets) with 98o, guy B calls with 98o, and the flop is 222. Guy B pretty much has no choice but to lose the pot, but with the same hand as guy A.

Minraising the button is probably a better strategy, the only reason why I don't use it is because small pots are boring . Ppl in general probably arent used to the dynamic of minraising as much as they are for 3x (although this can go both ways) and they probably aren't defending quite enough.

Again, the only way to deal with it is take a break, review, and not be emotionally effected by it. I'm not that baller with the exception of the occasional party bus being thrown--I buy pretty much w/e I want but not so much random decorative stuff like gold watches.

I've answered the first question a couple times. Occasionally I can't force myself to quit when losing, which leads to tilting some monies away. Remedy? That's a good question; I haven't quite fixed the problem yet :P

Thanks for doing this well Jungleman, you seem really down to earth which was not my initial opinion of you lol.

Imo, although I most likely overestimate my own abilities, I feel like I possess most of the knowledge required to beat SSNL HU and possibly MSNL HU. I can assign ranges pretty well, calculate the EV of certain actions I can take, etc. But when I'm playing sometimes for no reason at all I stop assigning ranges and just play by instinct (which is obviously worse than thoroughly thinking through each decision). Have you ever experienced this problem? I'm pretty sure the solution is just to slow down and take my time, but I want your opinion.

Do your parents know the extent of your success? How much do you tell them about poker? Did you tell them about your 600k down swing? How do they react to your poker playing?

I'm asking because I feel like one of the main reasons why I'm still playing .50/1 (with some 1/2) is because I've had to use my winnings for my everyday living ever since I've been playing. Therefore I can't afford to take many big shots because I need that money.

Also, props for being at college park. My hometown is 10-15 minutes away (Silver Spring).
Most yes, if youre looking to move up etc you probably dont want to be cashing out often; ideally get out of that scenario

3) what is your rate study/playing?
1.I'm sure 750k or so, maybe more

2.Somewhere between 30-40. When I lost to isildur that was 24 bis (at 1/2), followed by another -9 at 50/1 the next day to ZJ. That was probably my biggest downswing in both money and bis.

3. I don't really have a rate, I studied mostly whenever I felt like it

Nothing, really except not be so hasty to battle regs at 25/50. It's probably a good idea to move up from low stakes fastish and steadily slow down as you go higher and higher, which is basically what I did.

yes, and take a break

obv look at allin ev, be unbiased with analyzing your play, and beyond that I suppose you'd have to use HEM/pt3's special abilities to figure out what you are doing wrong/if youre doing something wrong

6. What are your plans in the future poker and non poker wise?

Gl in your future ventures!
1.It's pretty easy to get action at plo hu, not so much nl. I usually get a decent amount of action from both though it seems.

2. I regret not being involved as much socially, and because of this I'm somewhat out of touch.

3. Watching myself go higher and higher in stakes, and my br gradually increasing.

4. An ability to do all of the above better than the competition

5. I suppose strengths would be intelligence, integrity, and empathy to some extent. Weaknesses would be lack of discipline and indifference to many details.

6. For poker, to keep moving up in stakes and make more money ofc. Non poker, to get better at life in the non-career related areas and invest/do whatever to not have to have a real job.

7. To be well-known for doing something very noteworthy; to be well renowned.

8. Second would be anything that is lazy but makes a ton of money, maybe the manager of a company (somewhat lazy)? I'd guess pro sports players, actors, etc must have great jobs but I doubt I have much talent in either.

9. Top 5 is difficult, but 5 very good ones are Shawshank Redemption, Fight club, kick ass (:P), Avatar, LotR series also

10. Snowboarding, although surfing would probably be cooler.

whats the worst downswing you've had at 25/50 and 50/100 HU PLO in terms of buyins??

taxes, financial advisors, effort into minimising withdrawal fees etc?

If I'd been making so much money when I was 20 I doubt I would have had the sense to organise it properly (& would be in prison for tax avoidance by now). You've mentioned investing so it sounds like you're thinking about this side of things seriously...

also no gambling tax here in the UK (allegedly) - how can you not move here?

I believe you said earlier you were stuck half your roll during a session vs isildur. If I read something wrong, sorries!

Did you know this at the time?

If so, how did that affect you mentally? How did you feel/think after the session?

I ask cause I know it's important to not be affected by the money and try your best to look at things in terms of buy-ins and bb's (at least thats what keeps me sane)...but I can't imagine losing half my roll, while still playing the match, and not wanna jump.

Any insight into this is cool. ty

random Q: we are playing a fish and you'd obv. want him to sit at more tables with us. asking him to open up more tables may either scare him away, point out that we think we have an edge etc. any advice/best way of coercing other players to stay longer/play more tables besides dumping money to them :/ ?

Hypothetical situation: you are presented with the opportunity to play vs a winning 0.25/0.5 nl HU reg (that is, he is not clueless, but severely outmatched). The guy has inherited an immense fortune, and currently has a let's say 50 million roll that he can afford to lose (he will not be scared money during the match, and he will play his best).

It has been agreed that you will 4table with starting stacks of 100BB for 2 hours or until either of you bust. He lets you choose any stakes (even higher than is currently offered online is ok). You can't borrow, sell pieces of your action or change stakes during the match. What stakes would you choose for the match? What if he is a winning 2/4 reg? And if he is a 10/20 reg?

BUMP...

Jungleman you missed out my questions

If all your bankroll was taken away how long do you think you could reach 50/100 with a $10k starting roll? (obv I dont know a figure for the bankroll needed for 50/100 but maybe you can state that)
How would you then take shots and what games you you be wanting to play?

Is it worth it for me a 100NL - 400NL reg to learn HU PLO - I play mainly HUNL and make like 5PTBB/100? How long does it take to learn PLO (I know nothing about it), and how would you advise me going about it if you were in my shoes...

Are there any other games you think will get popular (excluding mixed games), that are particularly weak.

Sorry if any of these question have been asked before.
