9max, 50bb game:

Villain had a high three bet. I'm trying to learn new concepts and thought this was an okay spot to push. I felt I had some live cards, villain was short, and dead money in the pot. I need to be good 39% of the time. In hindsight, this call was probably -ev, but not by a whole lot. Trying to get my hands dirty and hard wire some concepts into my brain.

Villain: 105 hands
36/25/2.2AF
3bet: 25

•What do you think Villains range here is? Should we include all lower pocket pairs, or should we treat villain as more of an unknown. I didn't have any specific reads on him, was only going off his 3bet % and felt he was trying to take the pot down. What type of aces are we including? Are we including any big kings?

SB: $5.12 (20.5 bb)
BB: $22.68 (90.7 bb)
UTG+2: $24.76 (99 bb)
MP1: $61.19 (244.8 bb)
MP2: $34.42 (137.7 bb)
MP3: $5.74 (23 bb)
Hero (CO): $12.50 (50 bb)
BTN: $29.61 (118.4 bb)

Preflop: Hero is CO with J T
2 folds, MP2 raises to $0.55, MP3 calls $0.55, Hero calls $0.55, BTN calls $0.55, SB raises to $5.12, 3 folds, Hero raises to $12.50 and is all-in, BTN folds

Haven't heard the term "G-bucks" in a very long time. From a G-bucks perspective this is pretty bad. I haven't read that thread possibly since the week he published it on 2p2 but iirc Galfond was talking about postflop play and when you're putting your opponent to a decision. Here, we're essentially calling an all-in because our range can support it? fwiw, G-bucks is nothing more than a term for balance before balance was a thing.

Okay, well I guess my mindset was; my pot odds we're 39%. I figured as long as I had 39% equity vs. his range, it would be a break even call. So, I was going for my equity vs. his range vs. pot odds.

Folding is likely correct. The spirit of the question is not whether calling or folding is correct. I have constructed some ranges where calling is correct and I have constructed some ranges villain could have where folding is correct. I am looking for insight on what type of ranges villain could be trying to take this down with.

Also, what if we had to be right 35% of the time? 30%? At what point are you going to start calling based strictly on pot odds.

idk prolly less than $4 to start calling it off.
But with the btn left to act i prolly just fold 99.99% of the times.

''what type of ranges villain could be trying to take this down with.'' >AJ+ and 88+ imo

Thanks for the response.

With so many players in the pot, I really did not expect BTN to ever call or else he would have reraised instead of calling. And even if he did, it increases the amount of money we can win and I imagine JTs holds decent equity 3 way in this spot.
