Anyone Folding Here ?

One of the first few 3 bet pots. He seems OK, but no reads really.

Winning Poker Network (Yatahay) - $0.25 NL (2 max) - Holdem - 2 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

SB: 156.24 BB (VPIP: 75.00, PFR: 52.50, 3Bet Preflop: 11.76, Hands: 47)
Hero (BB): 153.24 BB

SB posts SB 0.4 BB, Hero posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.4 BB) Hero has A 2

SB raises to 3 BB, Hero raises to 8 BB, SB calls 5 BB

Flop: (16 BB, 2 players) 9 9 4
Hero bets 7.6 BB, SB calls 7.6 BB

Turn: (31.2 BB, 2 players) 2
Hero checks, SB bets 20 BB, Hero calls 20 BB

River: (71.2 BB, 2 players) 2
Hero checks, SB bets 120.64 BB and is all-in, Hero calls 117.64 BB and is all-in

Is anyone folding here? I know he's going to have 9x a decent chunk of the time here, and figured that some of the time, maybe he figures im pretty capped and he's shoving 4x trying to get called by Ax, and maybe he's turning two overs with a FD into a pure bluff representing 9x, or even overpairs like TT+ going for value here.

It seems OK to me, but it just feels like a spot where im paying off generally.

Re: Anyone Folding Here ?

The pivotal moment here is the turn, and I'm folding. He called your 3b pf, then your cbet on the flop, and then bet 2/3 pot ott. What are you in good shape against? Unless villain is fairly bad, next to nothing. I think your thought process here is important. Did you think about his range before you called 20 bbs?

Since you didn't fold, you're now in a tough spot. Flip a coin? With no reads, I lean towards a call since you now beat overpairs which he may be shoving but it sure feels like he's taking you to valuetown. Calling off 120 bbs in this spot just seems bad but I might puke and call, then take note of what he shows up with.

Re: Anyone Folding Here ?

Why is no1 saying anything about the 3bet size?
If you are saying he is ok, then chose a correct 3bet size.

It is fine to cbet otf, but should have been a smaller sizing. Keep in mind that it doesn't actually need to be a bet all the time.

We are giving up with a bunch ott that we want to cbet, so need to look for x/c as well. This hand fills in that role fine.
Also, villain certainly has quite a few floats otf that he would be betting now.

River - absolutely easy call. He might even be shoving TT and smaller PPs if he's good.

Btw. Anyone who reads this, never ever read anything RichGangi is commenting.
Absolute nonsense!

Wow, strong words feature7. If you say so....

I'll just say that I very much disagree with your advice regarding this hand. Good luck to you though!

Gee, I can't imagine why the forums are bereft of good strategy talk these days.

You seem very angry, you may want to work on that. GL.

P.S. your read on me could not be further from the truth, but that's unsurprising.

Re: Anyone Folding Here ?

Turn: Ask yourself what kind of hands you are beating on the flop, and then ask yourself what kind of hands you are beating on the turn. You'll find that despite your hand being nominally upgraded to pair instead of ace high, you aren't actually beating anything new except for Ax.

River seems close, but I am making a fold basing off the assumption that the correct play for overpairs is to check.

Who is basing plays on assumptions, me or OP?
What assumptions am I basing the play on?
Is it bad to act based on assumptions even if they are correct?

How do you fold your own range? what does this even mean? I don't hold a range of cards, I hold A2o. How can you fold half of your range for example?

Re: Anyone Folding Here ?

Fold turn. Your A2 is basically playing as A10 on turn, bad call. Just fold. Hit dream on river based upon the way this was played, have to call it off. Could easily be value betting an over pair or trying to push out Ax

3bet size is small , not the end of the world . i say more of a problem is the frequency that he isnt 3betting hince villians 3x open. ill make someone flip there stack every hand before i let someone 3x open on me. as for the river im not folding at .25 NL. he could be an awful player , spazzing , plus the bluffs and overpairs hes beating. also upswing isnt the only style of play.

Re: Anyone Folding Here ?

As played I'm never folding turn, our hand is too strong, the decision has to be made on the river not the turn like some suggest. He can have hands like A3, A5, even hands like 65s, J10s that float with backdoor equity. You cannot fold the turn here against a good opponent. And on the river I'm snapping. You block A9 which is his most likely 9-x, your hand is completely disguised, it sucks that he overbet turning ur hand into pretty much a pure bluff catcher, but occasionally he'll show up with something like 88. Better river discussion if river bricks out and u face a 1/2 pot bet. Then it gets tough.
