An “x” in front of a name indicates that lawmaker does not allow open posting. We can still comment, but it has to be via a response to an existing wall post.

Here are some potential threads for our comments for X's:

Let's all respectfully tell Congress that we demand our liberty. Let's continue to focus on the Facebook pages of members of the House Judiciary Committee and continue to own these pages. If you did this yesterday, please go back through and like the posts and comments made since. Thanks!

Sir,

It has come to my attention that you have not stated a position regarding legislation that would regulate online Poker.

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/sh...&postcount=639

I would like to call to your attention HR 2366, sponsored by Joe Barton of TX. This legislation is Poker specific, and would create the necessary regulations to allow for states to have its citizens participate in online Poker playing for money. I have learned from a young age that Poker is not gambling. Poker is distinct from other games of chance (traditionally defined as gambling) in that, players compete against each other, and not the person or entity hosting the game (sometimes called ‘‘the house’’), and that over any significant interval, the outcome of a poker game is predominantly determined by the skill of the participants.

I come from a large Greek family, where family gatherings were often concluded with all of the Aunts and Uncles playing $0.25/$0.50 limit poker. My Father and Uncles taught me the game back in the 1970s. I can say with confidence the game helped teach me mathematics, statistical probabilities, and interpersonal understanding. Today's society has moved away from the large family gatherings every weekend, to a virtual community. Websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Shutterfly are now social norms for how friends and family stay connected and share their life experiences. Online Poker is another form of this virtual community. It is a shame to the United States is one of a small handful of countries that deny its citizens the right to participate in this social game.

Please show your support for HR 2366 as it comes up for review in the Energy and Commerce Committee. I will be monitoring your position on this bill, and reporting back to all of your Poker playing constituents.

Thank you

Can this thing be attached to another bill? Is there any likelihood of that?
The way the for/against was put together isn't an exact science. HR2366 seems to have a lot more going for it in that it's poker only, strengthens the UIGEA, and was introduced by a republican.

But like it's been said, the UIGEA was a slam dunk 5 years ago. We've come a LONG way since then. Also with the economic downturn republicans seem to be shifting away from their strong stance on social issues as can be seen by last years repeal of DADT.

As far as this thing getting attached to another bill, I know there's some stuff floating around here on that, but from what I remember it's pretty much a longshot. It worked with the UIGEA because no one cared enough to stop it from happening, but I hear with this bill there is likely to be some key people that will never let it get attached to something else.

Got a generic response e-mail from my Senator Mark Warner (D) saying thanks for contacting me about online poker. He'll keep my comments in mind when considering the issue.

Bland response from a bland guy, imo.

That's all I've ever gotten. I just responded to my rep and asked him to co-sponsor HR2366. I would definitely respond back asking him to co-sponsor HR2366 and ask him his personal opinion on if he feels individuals should be allowed to play online poker.

(Reposting this with the links live this time.)

H.R. 2366 has to go through three committees in the House. Energy and Commerce, Judiciary, and Financial Services. This is the third and final list of committee members (for the House) -- Financial Services. Let’s facebook them!!

The FOR/AGAINST/UNDECIDED/UNKNOWN after each name is based on H.R.1174, which was an internet gambling law, not specific to poker, so don’t assume they still feel the same.

The names with an “x” in front of them are those who do not allow direct posting on their facebook wall. The reason, most likely, is problems with people campaigning on the page. The House Ethics Committee says the facebook pages cannot be used for campaigning so when some innocent enthusiastic devotee gets on there and campaigns, they have to change it so no one can make direct posts.

No problem for us. Just post a comment in response to a post already on the page. PLEASE BE SENSITIVE about this though. If the post says the congressperson is being treated for cancer, don’t bother them with poker. Tell them to get well soon. Be sensitive to what’s going on in their state too – wild fires, tornadoes, hurricanes, flooding, etc.

And PLEASE say please and thank you. Courtesy goes a long way.

Oh, and let’s all try to get the bill number correct. It’s H.R. 2366. Thanks!

The White House announced through its official Twitter account, @whitehouse, that it will host its first ever Twitter town hall on Wednesday, July 6 at 2PM ET in the East Room of the White House. Twitter co-founder and Executive Chairman Jack Dorsey will moderate a conversation between President Obama and Americans across the country about the economy and jobs.

We can submit a prepopulated question asking the President if he supports licensing and regulating online poker by clicking here. Or, submit your own poker question to President Obama by clicking here. Please don’t forget to use the hash tags #poker #askobama.

So, let's all do this one tomorrow before 2 pm ET.

Also, let's all continue to own the Facebook walls of House Judiciary Committee members. Please remember to revisit these walls to like the posts and comments made since your last visit. Thanks!
