They're deleting our comments, so at least we know they are being read.

That is really frustrating. I don't have confidence that "at least they are being read" matters. The types who will just delete them after reading them probably won't be influenced by us much if at all.

I saved a screenshot of the current comments. If they purge the poker comments again, I'll save that screenshot as well. I'll post it on Facebook and other sites and may even write an article about it.

I posted the following to his page:

Is this Sen. Kyl's private Facebook account, or are gov't funds used in any way to maintain it? If it is being maintained with gov't funds, is deleting respectful comments allowed?

Hardest part of this is the initial like, going to have to change settings so I don't have to explain why this shows up in newsfeeds.

Great idea

So disgusting. I have been permanently been banned from posting on Kyl's facebook page for several weeks now. The first and only comment I wrote was not inflammatory or antagonistic at all. Doesn't matter if I 'like' him on facebook, no comments allowed. All other facebook pages work fine.

Please write your article TheEngineer. People need to hear that lawmakers are constantly censoring politely worded comments from American citizens on their social networking pages. This is probably occurring with other topics well, not just online poker.

Mr. Bachus,
I have seen you misquote a study about poker technology in the past. Professor Howard Shaffer did a study that said “Video poker is the crack cocaine of gambling”. As you may have noticed you have been attack by online poker player by misquoting this study. Video poker and online poker are not the same thing and not even close to the same.
Video Poker is a casino game based on five-card draw poker. It is played on a computerized console similar in size to a slot machine. Also a house banked game that uses a poker-like interface for wagers
Online Poker is the game of poker played over the Internet. A peer to peer game of skill using a virtual environment for real people to play the game of poker against one another, not against the house.
Please remember when you misquote someone else study it only makes you look bad.
I sent this fax to all 3 of Bachus' fax lines
(f) 202-225-2082
(f) 205-969-3958
(f) 205-280-3060

Do you think the thinking behind deleting all these comment posts is: Oh my god, reality is coming to get me!

If anyone wants to post something like: Oh well, so much for representative democracy.

Little Kyl likely told some staff to delete all these posts, can you image what the staff person must be thinking.

Just curious, is media attention bad for poker? We seem to focus our letters to legislatures and government officials but never to news media outlets.

Clearly Bachus doesn't give a **** about online gambling, and writing letters and spamming his facebook isn't changing his opposition. With the right wing propaganda machine - Beck, O'reilly, Hannity, etc - suddenly praising libertarian ideals of constitutional rights and limited government, wouldn't they love the narrative of liberal big brother stripping our freedom to play poker and pocketing money from American citizens? Perhaps the media is a more effective channel through which to pressure Bachus.

This comes from senator bachus wikipedia page.....Look at the nice words they use for him..

Stock tradingIn 2007, Bachus made trades with a number of short term stock options, betting that stocks would rise or fall for a quick profit or loss. Bachus made up to $160,000, including a bet in March that the stock market would drop that earned him between $15,000 and $50,000. Most members of Congress hold some stocks or mutual funds, but Bachus' rapid-fire trades are unusual for a leading member of Congress, particularly one with the key role of ranking member of the House Committee on Financial Services.[10]

looks like stock trading is his crack cocaine............. I wish wikipedia used gambling instead of betting !

Fox "news" might actually be an ally here, strange as that might sound. They could very well continue their narrative of attacking anything and everything Obama does by spinning black friday as the Obama administration launching a socialist/marxist attack on America's right to play a legal game.

Combine this with a star tea bagger introducing AGA's bill, and we might even have the hoard of bumbling tea party douche-****s on our side.

Sums up my thoughts exactly, in much more eloquent words. I think massive "email-bomb" campaigns to nationally televised media outlets could be quite effective. Especially to fox news, in this case. As much as I despise them, they are damn good at what they do.

I like it. I think I saw a thread earlier with updated media contact info. Can someone post that here?
