I'm still confused by the whole legality thing I'm still confused by the whole legality thing

I know I'm several years behind the times, but I'm still curious.

Did PokerStars, Full Tilt and Absolute getting indicted on Black Friday have anything to do with the UIGEA or not? If not, why were they indicted? If so, how are sites like Ignition, Merge, WPN and Revolution able to, at least as far as I can tell, do the same thing *they* were doing?

I'm also still not clear in general whether or not there's any reason whatsoever for an American citizen to be concerned about playing on the four sites I mentioned. The most common answer I hear is, "Yeah, it might actually be illegal, but nobody's ever been arrested for it and people have been paying taxes on their winnings for years without getting audited by the IRS".

If there's any question whatsoever about the legality of those four networks, why don't more sites switch to a model like what Global Poker does?
