I have looked everywhere and could not find any definitive answer one way or the other.

Does anybody know for sure whether online poker is legal in Singapore?

Thanks!

I think they legalized gambling recently but it doesn't go into effect until 2009?

Correctly speaking gambling is illegal in Singapore. But this online poker matter is a grey area where most of the online players here in Singapore adopt a "keep quiet about it" attitude. I'm from Singapore too but I haven't had any problems with my daily grinds. However do note that Carbon and Party Poker are banned in Singapore, don't ask me the reason as I do not know why either. If you're looking for a place in South East Asia to reside and play poker, Singapore would be the ideal choice in terms of internet connectivity and providing a similar standard of living which you are used to back home. Compared to the other SEA countries, Singapore is way more urbanized. But the bad points being as much of the island city is urbanized, there isn't much of any culture experience or sight seeing to be expected here. Hope post helps, feel free to pm if you have any other queries.

As a more general question, is there a website that lists which countries allow (or have not explicitly banned) online poker? Or which sites allow players from which countries?

hi i just came to singapore last month, and have just received my internet connection. I can't log in to either stars or party, in fact it just gets stuck at the loading screen. is the singaporean government blocking access to the websites?

can anyone confirm if they do play poker online on singapore, and what connection they use and how would i enable myself to log on to poker sites? i am using a singnet 3Mbps broadband line.

thank u my fellow singaporeans!

Has anyone ever been prosecuted before? I still remember the flogging for bubble gum ****. Is it becoming less authoritarian or what? Singapore is one government id rather not **** with.

Hi all,

Let me add my 2 cents worth. I am a Singaporean who plays as "professor76" in Full Tilt.

As for legality, it is a gray area. The government has prosecuted bettors who bet with illegal bookies and betting is only allowed via the official Singapore Pools. However no one has ever been prosecuted for internet gambling as far as I know.

Internet connection is usually very good here. Stars and Tilt are definitely playable in Singapore. If they are blocked in any internet cafe, it might be the cafe which blocked the site? Party Poker, no. In the past it was allowed but ever since they banned US players, they have proceeded to ban it in several countries whose legislation makes it illegal (see the party site for details)

Anyone who wants to try playing poker in Singapore or just meet up and chat, do send me a personal message

Open pokerstars from your C drive --> program files. You'll be able to connect from there. As for partypoker, they currently don't allow players from singapore or players playing in singapore.

Definitely illegal. I have seen a clause in the regulations on ecitizen site that encompasses online poker (though it's not mentioned explicitly). But who cares. Not even the Goverment I guess. During APT couple years ago, there were so many singaporeans.. Many of them publicly said they play online.

I see some bad signs though. Of late adult video sites are getting banned as per MDA instructions. May not be long before... the worst happens.. But till then... just have fun!

Bumping this too, very interested since I'm planning to move to Singapore for a couple of months, and online poker will be my main source of income while residing there.

I've read the replies, but most of them were made 2 years ago. Has anything changed? Does anyone have additional feedback?

I was the one who went to find out about the legality.

Well it is still a gray area but it is definitely possible. I play a lot. And yeah pokerstars is doing a small local show in Singapore anyway.

So yes there will be no problems playing on stars.

Hi Blackchilli,

To play on pokerstars in Singapore, seems like the best deposit and withdraw option is through moneybookers? Do if know what kind of transaction fees will be charged, and whether the process of setting up an account is easy. Thank you very much

As far as I'm aware of, the only laws in Singapore related to gambling, prohibits "live" gambling venues which operate solely for gambling related activities that is open to the masses. There are no laws that explicitly state that online gaming is illegal. However, the banks here prohibit the use of your credit/debit card transactions for gaming purposes. Of course you can always get around this by going through an e-wallet eg. Moneybookers. I've been playing alot of online poker and have not encountered any legality issues yet. You can log on to almost all of the sites/skins offered in the market.

And yes, PokerStars did sponsor a poker reality show, Asian Poker Showdown, that was hosted in Singapore, something similar to that of the Australian version hosted by Joe Hachem. But this show is not televised on national TV but rather being streamed on the internet.

Hope this helps! PM me if you need further information!

Hi guys,

I will visit Signapore at the end of this year... I'm very curious if I can play casino games online over there. I would hate it to stop playing online casino when I'm in Signapore.

Can anybody please tell me:

-Can I use my credit card when gambling online
-Is it illegal to play online casino in Signapore?
-Have legal steps been taken towards online gamblers / online casinos in the past?

I really appreciated your informatioan. Thanks in advance.

Kind regards

HVDB

1. Be sure to sign up with a rakeback affiliate for your FTP real money account, to get rakeback on your play.

2. Support @ FTP will be able to tell you which deposit options are available for you.
