I wouldn't hold my breath - but things could change quickly. This year is out (even if/when passed it would take a while, year maybe, to be implemented)

Chicago casino will need to go first. Casino's/Race Tracks/ Thoroughbred association still need to get on the same page. Right now Online poker is on the backburner for sure (people don't even bring it up to me anymore and I don't bother asking)

Cullerton, our biggest alley, will probably retire when his term is up. So in four years if nothing happens, that might mean it's never happening.

Yesterday, H. 479, which would license and regulate online poker, online casino-style gaming and daily fantasy sports in Illinois, was approved by the full Illinois Senate 42-10. The bill now goes back to the state House where it passed 92-17 back in February (prior to being amended in the Senate to include iGaming and DFS regulation).

The House is in recess and is expected to return to work later in June. Because of the fiscal situation facing Illinois and the need to pass a budget that includes new revenues, several industry observers believe there is a chance that iGaming/DFS regulation could become part of the budget.

When is the eta before we find out if online poker passes all the necessary things to become law. Just speculations please and how long before they would get a system up and running.

Do we know if they will actually return/vote on it this year? My rep responded to me saying 2017 Sessions had finished. **Note was one of the 17 of course.

Last year they didn't return until November.
They have until the end of this month tho to get a budget in place or IL will be the first state ever to receive a junk rating on their bonds.
So whether or not they get a special session going idk. I'd probably place money on the fail line.

I received an email from the DFS sites about a hearing tomorrow in Illinois that could have an impact on DFS moving forward, any idea if this is tied to the poker / gambling bills?

* The difference between the past few days and today is that House members were told that nothing would happen and they could go home if they wanted and await further news. Because of that advice, however, not enough showed up for a quorum and they couldn’t approve the Senate’s adjournment resolution, so they’re technically stuck in session*looking like mopes…

What happened with Illinois? They're pushing all this stuff through now with Pritzker, but no mention of online poker.

Marijuana, sports gambling.

Good question. Don't know either. But what I do know is that it would be beyond foolish not to include any and all the revenue boosters it can get its hands on (even if online poker initially will be small) b/c their state financial budget issues are exploding and will need all the financial help it can get.

From my understanding, the only "poker" product that was legitimately considered in the latest push was an extension of the 2015 "Raffles and Poker Runs Act" (which also includes "dice runs" and "marble runs" -- whatever those are).

http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs...0&ChapterID=25

Competitive online poker in Illinois was never seriously considered as far as I know, but I haven't looked into it further since 2018.

Formally licensed, competitive U.S. online poker may be perceived as more of a burden, headache, or nuisance by statewide lawmakers until more clarity is provided on cross-state "shared liquidity" games, or until some of the game integrity/prohibited software/VPN-ing issues get resolved for online peer-to-peer games (or given up on altogether).

Yup a new gaming expansion bill just passed the Senate as the new governor seems to be able to get things moved thru.

New casinos, expanded gaming positions, sports betting.. ECT...no mention of online anything that I see

The "PPA" I believe you're referring to (aka the "Poker Players Alliance") no longer exists. There was a failed $25,000 fund drive about a year ago which didn't attract sufficient player donations (they got $6k I think) -- so the organization publicly removed the "player" element of its lobbyist outreach and has also experimented with sports betting lobbying since making the name change.

The "Poker Alliance" is now under the PokerGO umbrella, and is back to its old tricks of scaring players for money, support, and monetizing the space -- at least via one lobbyist group called the Social Card Clubs of Texas (SCCoT -- see "Gold Sponsor").

For an updated recount of how this lobbyist group involvement may have (once again) aided in entangling poker players and businesses with law enforcement, check out the Houston Poker Rooms Raided NVG thread.

With that said, the "PA" (aka the Poker Alliance -- not the "PPA") does not publicly purport to represent player interests as far as I know. But they have publicly stated that players are welcome to provide feedback on a statewide basis (not here, but directly via the Poker Alliance group) if players wish to do so, and that they will not interfere with any player-funded outreach if players choose to go that route.

So it doesn't seem to be the responsibility of the "PA" to respond to player criticism if they're not outwardly claiming to represent players. Texas poker clubs may be an exception since the SCCoT group (via their website and one of Chris Moneymaker's tweets embedded in the Houston thread) are openly asking for "support," attempting to control player rhetoric, and leveraging the PokerGO brand -- which as mentioned above is the parent company of the current "Poker Alliance."
