Got this email response from Jan Schakowsky earlier today:

Despite my support for online gambling, I am concerned about the negative repercussions it might have on the Illinois State Lottery, which contributes over $600 million annually to public schools. The introduction of online gambling companies into the marketplace could have a negative impact on Lottery revenues. With significant budget cuts at the state level, I want to ensure that any legislation passed in Washington does not jeopardize the education of young people at home.

Anyone got a good angle to lock up her support?

1) focus on poker, not gambling IMO
2) lottery revenues not directly related to poker, I would imagine there would not be a big impact
3) legislation would give a certain % of online gambling revenue to the states
4) online gambling is already occurring in the United States, so why not bring home some of the revenue to Illinois?
5) legislation is likely to include a crackdown on online casino games, which should mean more opportunity for the Illinois lottery to make money for education

I remember a discussion where it was stated that there is not much overlap between poker players and lottery players. So internet poker shouldn't erode the lottery's player base too much. If I can find it I'll post it or send it to you (Barewire).

[edit] I think it was this one where the PA Lottery was complaining about internet poker. http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/57...-poker-939577/ I think you can check that for ideas.
