Why do you play micro stakes? Why do you play micro stakes?

Just wondering is there a reason you play mirco stakes? There are people out there who play it and it's not much money.

So why so you play mirco stakes?

That doesn't help much just wondering why people play Mirco stakes if it's not for much money.

Kind of feels like a troll thread but lets give it a try anyway:

The question should be why not play it? There are recreationals & degens alike who are splashing around money at midstakes, money they could be using for other stuff. Do you think it's smarter by them to do so rather than losing less at Micros, because in Micros"it's not for much money"?

Further possible reasons:
- Regs who are too lazy to improve to beat higher stakes but beat Micros, while wanting to make a side-income with something they enjoy doing, with very low monetary swings
- Motivated players who are just starting out
- Recreationals that simply enjoy playing, know they are losing, and are smart enough to realize it wouldn't be a good idea to lose more at higher stakes, eventhough "it's not for much money"

Maybe people see it as entertainment, and they will get more entertainment if they play a bunch of <$5 MTT's or 2NL, rather than losing it all in five minutes at 100NL

The correct question is why would reg / serious poker player, who looks to make some extra money, would play micro stakes....

It is a joke grinding 20 tables nl2 and nl5 to make a few bucks, while spending hours and hours grinding.

feels mentally easier to play 4 tables zoom NL50-100 rather than 1-2 standart tables NL500-1000+
also having a history of 7 years+ constant withdrawing money for different reasons doesnt allow to move higher
why take more risk when you know you almost always make money every month playing microstakes( probably 10k/month is max, but normally 3-5k), especially when you live in country with relative low expenses?

How so? Let me give you an example:

When I was visiting educational school back in the day, I had no money other than what I earned through Poker, while already living on my own (rent had to be paid, I had to pay the school monthly, and I had to eat somehow too). No savings whatsoever, so I had to make sure the Money would come in on a monthly basis.
What I needed per month (about 600€/month at the least) may have been really low even for european standards, but basically I had the choice of doing some shitty Job on the side that I'd hate, for minimum wage, (about 8€/hr at the time), or massgrind 1€-3€ SNGs and have at least some enjoyment in it (and pretty stable money as well because I'd already get about 600€/month in total Rakeback) for roughly the same hourly.
Guess it's obvious I chose to grind.

That being said - if one is winning at all, they are already a minorty by far in Poker, so in my Book a winning NL5 Player deserves more respect than some random NL100 guy splashing around their Money. Not the case in most peoples' head I guess.

For me, there is no excitement in winning a 20 dollar pot. That's boring, and if I'm playing for entertainment, well I could never play micros.
If I need money, I work. Luckily I make an ok wage.
Guess I am lucky. ..5 dollars was something when we played family nights. I was 7 and that was over 30 years ago. A quarter a hand for blackjack was awesome!
But man, poker, blackjack are boring ass games without money on the line. And it better mean something.

Played there while I learned how to play PLO properly, everyone says the rake is unbeatable, which makes it an interesting challenge. I did manage to beat the rake trap and build up a suitable bankroll for smallstakes. Yes I probably could have learned faster and then deposited to play higher but thats not fun for me. I don't need my bankroll to live and my motivations to learn and play are my own.

Not all online poker players are motivated by making money. Some play micro stakes purely for entertainment reasons, win or lose. These players contribute to the poker ecology by making regular deposits. Be thankful these fun players exist because if they didn't the games would lose liquidity, and the poker sites would close.

I grind low stakes MTT. On average I would say that I play 5-6 MTT daily with buyins up to $15. In the last month I've staked ~$1,200 and have made a ~$440 profit. I would say this is about typical during months when I have some time to actively play. Sometimes I have a less than great month, but in 2023 I've never had a month where I've lost money.

For me, I enjoy it, and am able to consistently to make a small profit. I can play a couple while working my real job from home and another few at night once the family is in bed on most days. The extra few thousand (sometimes more) annually is nice.

Note that I've really never tried to play higher stakes MTT because I don't feel that my bankroll is high enough to justify it. I tend to cash out my profits quarterly or so. I've considered it but honestly just don't want extra stress of something new that I have to worry about since I'm already very busy. I know that I can win doing what I'm doing and that is that.

If you live somewhere with a very low cost of living, it's not an insignificant amount of money.

If you're a recreational player you may not care about winning significant money, because you're probably a losing player and not winning any amount of money so it's more about losing an amount you're comfortable with.

The dream of grinding it up from the micros without having to invest significant capital.

Because the vast majority of poker players aren't good enough to beat higher stakes

Because I'm not good enough to play higher stakes yet. Moving higher right now would only make me lose more money and faster.

I play micros as a hobby. Don’t get me wrong; I want to win and if I can make some extra money at it, I am not going to complain, but it truly is not about the money for me. It is about the challenge of honing my game to the point where I can be a long term winning player. Whether that involves winning $1 pots or $100 pots is irrelevant to me. The math of poker is the same regardless of stakes. All pots start at 1.5 BB and all players have a stack of around 100BB or so at risk (give or take; there are certainly deep stacks and short ones). Obviously the level of competition varies with stakes level, but a 5BB/100 win rate is a decent win rate, whether that translates into $0.10 per hundred or into $100 per hundred.

I play low stakes cash and tourneys on SwC. Started with nothing, literally zero, and wanted to see if I could run up a roll starting from freerolls. Don't need the money, don't want to play higher until the br can handle it. Up $600 now after a year on the site. Just having fun playing poker. Can't imagine ever being a pro, would suck all the fun out of the game.

My bankroll fits it and I'm looking to move up in about one month of play. Think it's going to feel good to move through the stakes.
