When to use flop-to-turn odds instead of flop-to-river? When to use flop-to-turn odds instead of flop-to-river?

Hi there! I've been watching poker on TV and become interested in learning more about the game from various online resources. I've read quite a bit but still have some clearly newbie questions.

One that I wanted to ask more experienced players relates to pot odds vs winning odds. There are all these charts about flop-to-turn and flop-to-river odds. I don't quite understand when I would use flop-to-turn odds instead of always using flop-to-river ones after flop.

E.g. if I have a flushdraw with 9 outs on the flop, and I am being offered 25% (3:1) pot odds, is that a long term winner or loser?

It appears to me that the answer kinda depends: in simple cases when someone goes all in on the flop or have barely any stack left after flop, we can easily rely on flop-to-river odds. But if they do not go all in and still have a large stack, a lot depends on whether they bet more on the turn and how much more. If they do not bet more on the turn, flop-to-river would have been the right odds to use. If they do, the right odds would fall somewhere between flop-to-turn and flop-to-river odds. So what's a decent strategy to decide whether to use flop-to-river or flop-to-turn odds after the flop?

Thank you!

It depends, stack sizes, player types, the quality of your flush draw, the existence of hidden outs, the possibility of winning the hand by bluffing on future streets, there are many different factors at play here. There is a world of difference between a baby flush draw and the nut flush draw.

Yeah you answered yourself, it's clear cut only in an all-in scenario.
