So, I am far from a good poker player, In Fact, I think recently I have realized I thought I was good but good players do not lose more than they win. So, I accept I am pretty average and need to step back and try to learn more about the game from scratch.

I am working on tight aggressive style mainly since it is easy to play according to experts and harder to mess up.

So, two questions

1- With this style if I am sitting at a live poker table (No online where I live) and I am getting no cards at all for the style over say a 2-to-3-hour period, then on top of it when i do get cards to play I either get out drawn, I start with jacks they have kings. it's just one of those days nothing is going right. How do most of you decide ok today is not the day and get up and leave? is it a certain amount of time you give yourself to heat up, is it a certain amount of money lost? a hand count?

2- Am I wasting my time trying to play tight aggressive when I can only play low limit like 1/2 NL, and it seems like nothing will get people off hands.

Theres more reason to play tight aggressive at low stakes due to the high rake

Really the biggest factors in regard to stopping are whether you are playing in a profitable game and whether you are still playing your best. Usually low stakes live games will be profitable. You will almost always have a lot of loose passive types who will pay off when you hit your hand.

That leaves you. How are you reacting when that JJ vs KK hand you posted happens? Are you changing your play? Are you getting pissed and just start playing random garbage hands? Are you going the other way and not playing your QQ aggressively because someone might have AA? If so, it’s time to leave. But if you are able to shrug it off and just play the game the same way, then keep going.

BTW patience is key. While you can and should look for opportunities to grab smaller pots, you will often spend hours just folding when you aren’t getting hands. Again how are you dealing with that? Are you still playing the same way or do you find yourself starting to open hands like A4o UTG? If the latter, then maybe it’s time to quit.

Very good point. I feel like I do not change and get loose. I still play firm. I just feel like after an hour or two or just not winning any hands from being out flopped maybe its time to go?

Really, the biggest factor in regard to stopping, when you are playing in a microstakes rake trap like 1-2, is whether you are having fun. When it stops being fun, pick up and cash out.

I am torn when it comes to this. Back many years ago before my divorce I had a nice bankroll and lived in New Jersey and use to play 2/5 NL about 2 to 3 days a week. Then I lost my bankroll to said divorce and just finances have not allowed me to get it back so its about $1000 right now and I now live in Florida no online poker and the local horse track its 1/2 NL basically only. Its all old retired people. Its very boring but at the same time I feel like if I was good I should be able to dominate the table but I just can not seem to get going. When i win its minimal like around $100 to $200 profit. When i lose its around $300 to $400

and Florida has no online poker for smaller stakes.

I'm a little confused by this. As far as I know, there is no Florida specific law against online poker. So any sites that serve the US would allow a Florida resident to play. I know that Global Poker has no restriction on Florida. They have a wide range of stakes, and at the lower end the competition is very soft. If you know how to work it, you can play real money games for free, and build a bankroll that way.

Really? I think Florida does have a law against it but I will check out Global poker.

I believe in the US online poker is illegal unless a state passes legislation permitting it. So far AFAIK, only NJ, PA, MI and NV have done so, although there may be others. Here in PA it is legal, but sites offering online can only do so to players physically present in PA. There is no intermingling of the player pools with other states or other international players. We can only play against other PA residents.

Obviously laws in other states will vary, but I believe that FL has not passed legislation allowing online play, so OP probably is limited to live play only.

That is an interesting take on the laws. My understanding is that for something to be illegal federally, there needs to be a federal law making it illegal. According to ChatGPT, there is no federal law making online poker illegal. There is a law regarding financial transactions but this does not make the playing of online poker illegal.

Regardless of this, Global Poker uses a completely different model - what they call social gaming, or a sweepstakes model. Some call this a loophole, but regardless of what you call it, they undoubtedly have a team of lawyers that has decided that it is legal in the US (they only allow players from US and Canada). You don't technically play for money, and you cannot deposit money. Instead, you can play with Sweeps Coins. If you win more Sweeps Coins, you can trade them in (redeem) for prizes. And the typical prize just happens to be money. You are never required to put any money into the site, and you can still acquire Sweeps Coins.

Their customer service is not exactly the best in the business, but their redemption process is very quick and easy, though you need to take out a minimum of $50 when you redeem.

Tight aggressive is the way to play, but not overly aggressive unless you are really skilled at it. Limping is OK sometimes -- not as taboo as it used to be. As for stopping, set a $$ limit or a time limit and stick to it.

I play on the Pokerrrr2 app, which should be "legal" anywhere for the players. Just find a host/game you trust.
