PPA can now confirm Gov. Christie's conditional veto of the poker bill. We have obtained a copy of the NJ conditional veto. It looks very good for us. Full statement forthcoming...

I'm a little confused about one aspect of the conditional veto. If the bill is updated as per Christie's request and sent back for his signature, could he conditionally or outright veto it? Or does the conditional veto mean that once the updates are made, he is legally obligated to sign it?

I would hate to think that we are all getting our hopes up in NJ when Christie can just keep dragging us along and never sign the bill.

It's OFFICIAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By HOA NGUYEN, Staff Writer

Gov. Chris Christie will allow the state to legalize Internet gambling but is issuing several recommendations, including that the legislature limit the activity for 10 years, according to a 31-page veto statement Sen. Raymond Lesniak, D-Union, said the governor released today.

“With these goals in mind, I have concluded that now is the time for our State to move forward, again leading the way for the nation, by becoming one of the first States to permit Internet gaming,” the governor said in his statement, which Lesniak provided to The Press of Atlantic City.

While saying he supports authorizing Internet gambling, Christie said he wants future leaders to decide after 10 years whether Internet gambling should be authorized and amended if they decide.

“I recommend that this law authorizing Internet gaming in New Jersey sunset after a period of ten years, giving future leaders the perspective and opportunity to revise and renew Internet gaming as appropriate,” he said in his statement.

Internet gambling also would be taxed at 15 percent rather than 10 percent, under the governor’s recommendation. Christie also said he wants compulsive gambling programs to be better funded.

Lesniak said he was pleased by the governor’s action, and that the legislature would proceed with crafting a revised bill based on some of the governor’s recommendations.

Now PokerStars will definitely be buying the Atlantic Club, although I'm sure it's been done behind closed doors for some time now on the condition this bill turned into law. Rational Group will now get its license and I'm assuming that will grant them permission to run PokerStars in NJ.

Ok, but would they be allowed international player pools?

someone in the other NJ thread guesstimated 1.5 YEARS before this would be possible...

I just do not understand why the process is so incredibly lengthy.

Thanks in advance
