If you've not done this yet, please have a look at it now. If you have, please like some of the pro-poker comments. It's not every day that a 100% FoF-rated conservative lawmaker posts pro-poker comments. IMO he needs to hear from all of us.

To anyone what does FoF rated mean?

Meet your Member of Congress in August

Congress will be breaking for its annual August recess soon, so let's start preparing now for our senators' and representatives' townhall meetings. Townhalls are a great opportunity for us to meet with our Members of Congress to tell them that we want pro-poker legislation, so let's all try to do this.

Not all townhall meetings are widely advertised. To get the most up-to-date information, please take the time now to call your Member of Congress and ask that you be notified should any townhall meetings be scheduled.

The PPA put together a useful guide that gives the ins and outs of townhall meetings, including a tool to get phone numbers for Congressional offices.

Thanks!

Does anyone know when the extra co-sponsors are going to be announced to H.R 2366?

I read something about new co-sponsors that were to be announced shortly for H.R. 2366. Just wonder if they have been identified yet.

Any fellow Alabama poker players want to meet up and hit some District 7 office? Terri Sewell is my rep in Tuscaloosa. I think Spencer Bachus might have an office here too. It would be good if we could get a cross-section of folks together -- to visually impress upon people that online poker players come from all demographics. I would be representing the poor 50 y/o disabled white female demographic. It wouldn't break my heart if Shannon Shorr joined us!

August is soooooo the wrong month for me to get out (I'm heat intolerant), but I'll do it if we can get a small group together. Otherwise, I'll prolly just do phone and email stuff.

PM me if you're in Tuscaloosa or B'ham or otherwise in District 7. Thanks.

Oh, thanks for the link, I missed that daily update. That's good news! Kudos to the PPA for continuing to lobby during the debt negotiations. Savvy strategy as most members weren't directly involved, and left to sit twiddling their thumbs while the members in leadership negotiated. Good work!

Richard, is it likely the new cosponsors won't be announced until September, now that recess has begun?

What was said on 60 minutes last week that was detrimental to our cause? Missed that also...

It was a rerun that discussed slot machine addiction.

There is a post on the 60 Minutes Facebook wall to which we ought to post our thoughts: http://www.facebook.com/60minutes/posts/130738363684149

For example, online poker -- a person-to-person game of skill -- can easily include self-banning and deposit limit provisions. Sites can also utilize software tools to identify patterns that indicate compulsive behaviors. In fact, a Harvard study shows that licensed and regulated online poker is better at addressing problem gaming than is prohibition.

Senator Johnny Isakson is Georgia's best bet. He is a moderate Republican and generally believes moral issues are not the government's business. I will see what I can do to meet with him. Because I think he is the best senator in GA to target on this issue I encourage any other players in GA to try to meet with him as well! If I can get a meeting I'll post here and if anyone would like to meet me where ever the meeting is it would be great.

I'll try to meet with Phil Gingrey and Saxby Chambliss but my guess is they are a total waste of time. The are both ultra right wing conservatives.

Asked (via facebook) my congressional representative whether she'll be holding a townhall meeting in T-town this month. For those of you in Tuscaloosa or Birmingham or other parts of District 7, I got this reply:

Sheryl, we will be hosting a town hall in Tuscaloosa in the near future. As details develop, the location and date will be posted on Facebook and on our website. Our next town halls will be in Bessemer on August 29 and in the Five Points West neighborhood of Birmingham on August 30. Please feel free to stop by if you are in the area.

The rep is Terri Sewell. I think she and Spencer Bachus both share parts of T-town and B'ham -- I'm just lucky enough to be in Sewell's territory.

I love to see CBS gives us a favorable review on one of their news shows. It would be that much greater after the support we received from Fox.

From the Grand Rapids Press, at http://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapi...nce_in_le.html:

Quote:
Huizenga keeps it local

Reviews were mixed last week after U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga hosted his first town hall meeting on Facebook. The Zeeland Republican got only ten “likes” and several complaints about his failure to address questions about H.R. 2366, a bill that would regulate online poker.
