I think we should get back to that. I think it would be easy to do on top of whatever else you have planned.
I post some Facebook actions most days. It's something some here really like to do, while others don't do it at all. I don't wish to alienate anyone, so I try to mix it up. I like the idea of having some Facebook stuff each day, but I also try to keep the actions from looking too big and daunting.

I'd like to hear more from what everyone else thinks. I hope everyone will post ITT with their thoughts, so I can tailor the actions appropriately.

Let's all call Congress and respectfully demand our rights. These should be short, friendly calls. These are not debates, so there is no need to worry about preparation. Rather, the goal of the call is simply to let these lawmakers know that their constituents support the right to play. PPA sent an email to its active members with a similar request, so we can expect Congress to get an earful from poker enthusiasts!

For the phone numbers of your elected representatives, either click here or visit the PPA Take Action page and scroll down to item #2.

Here are some tips on what to say to the staffer who answers the phone:
  • I am a constituent, voter and a poker enthusiast.
  • (For Representatives) Please support H.R. 2366, a bipartisan bill to license and regulate Internet poker.
  • (For Senators) H.R. 2366 has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives. I would like the Senator to support Senate legislation to license and regulate Internet poker.
  • Regulation means strong consumer protections as well as billions of dollars in federal and state revenue.
  • Please support my freedoms and support this bill.
  • Thank you.
  • I would like a response from the Representative/Senator.
Let's also continue to own a lot of Facebook pages (senators, congressmen, Congressional committees, etc.). We need lots of posts on the issue of poker and lots of "liking" of pro-poker comments:
  • The House Committee on Energy and Commerce Facebook page is here.
  • The House Financial Services Committee's Facebook page is here.
  • The Dept. of Justice's Facebook page is here.
Thanks!

How about another campaign to get this issue covered more in the media? I sent an email to John Stossel today, asking him to do another story on online poker. We really need to get more people educated about all of this.

Today's action plan is the easiest yet. Simply reply to this thread with your commitment to participate.

By posting your commitment, you'll ensure we have the participation required to optimize our chances of success. You'll also help encourage others to participate.

So, please respond with "I'm in." Thanks!

Once done, let's continue posting to House Committee Facebook walls. We need lots of posts on the issue of poker and lots of "liking" of pro-poker comments:
  • The House Committee on Energy and Commerce Facebook page is here.
  • The House Financial Services Committee's Facebook page is here.
  • The Dept. of Justice's Facebook page is here.
Thanks!

Lets think of all of the possible combinations that can be posted. Here are a few:

p 0ke r
pok3r
pokr
p@ker

You could also post specific names of games, such as texas holdem, omaha, stud8, five card draw.

Also, I am struck by this article which is a little dated, however, I think that it still applies today. Everything that is posted will be viewed by far more than actually contribute.

It's great to see all the "I'm in" replies. Thanks!

I've gotten a few requests for Facebook actions. These have been effective in generating attention for us, so let's keep on it!

H.R. 2366, the Online Poker Act, has been referred to three committees in the House: Energy and Commerce, Judiciary, and Financial Services. Let's Facebook them all.

The FOR/AGAINST/UNDECIDED/UNKNOWN after each name is based on H.R.1174, the Campbell/Frank online gaming bill. The names with an “x” in front of them are those who do not allow direct posting on their Facebook wall. No problem for us. Just post a comment in response to a post already on the page. PLEASE BE SENSITIVE about this though. If the post says the Congressperson is being treated for cancer, don’t bother them with poker. Tell them to get well soon. Be sensitive to what’s going on in their state, too – wildfires, tornadoes, hurricanes, flooding, etc. And PLEASE say please and thank you. Courtesy goes a long way.

Let's all also remember to revisit these walls to like the posts and comments made since your last visit. Thanks!

Hi TE I'm a sorta in trying to step up the involvement. I saw your post today 7/28 ... my congressman is Gary Miller(R) California. Safe republican district and will face no challenges as long as he wants to run.

He is a committed opponent. .... I wrote to him many times and no response, however, the latest letter back around black friday and a few times there after got this response ..

Quote:
Thank you for contacting me with your support for the decriminalization of Internet gambling. I appreciate hearing your perspective on this important issue. While I generally favor limited government intervention, I believe the threats internet gambling pose to our society outweigh any benefits that proponents of legalization cite.

Despite the widespread availability of Internet gambling, it is illegal in the United States, unless regulated by the states. The numerous gambling websites overseas are unlicensed and unregulated by any state, and thus violate all fifty state laws in which they are available. While most Internet gambling sites violate state and federal laws, wagers amounting to an estimated $4.2 billion a year pass through the 1,800 sites available for Internet gambling. It is well documented that Internet gambling enables fraud, money laundering, drug trafficking, and terrorist financing.

As a member of the House Financial Services Committee, I helped craft the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIGEA), which tasked the Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve Board, in consultation with the Justice Department, with jointly developing and implementing rules to block financial transactions with online casinos. Since the passage of this legislation, there are some in Congress seeking to overturn or weaken the UIGEA. I will continue to oppose any attempt to legalize gambling over the Internet. Considering the social and economic harm done to America's families and to young people from unlawful Internet gambling, as well as the use of revenues for illegal activities that harm our country, I believe I must continue to prevent further harm to our society.
Last year he was on Finance committee and did not vote at all on the Poker bill pushed by B. Frank. I think he figured no chance, I think the increasing chance of legislation may have brought out the fight. From the tone of this response I feel he will oppose in every way even poker only bill. I would move his slot to opponent and treat him as such until further position statements.

Id like to see the against and undecided above the for list so that we can hit them up easier and before Facebook bans us.

Also Representative Michael E. Capuano has co sponsored the bill but is just listed as "for".

The list just hasn't been updated recently. Michael Grimm, Ed Perlmutter, and Eliot Engel are also CO-Sponsoring. I have been taking it easy lately. Once the debt ceiling is raised, I'll get back on it. I doubt any politician is going to be putting much time into other issues for the next 5 days.

Rep. John Campbell (R-CA), sponsor of H.R. 1174, the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act, posted some pictures from our poker rally on his Facebook wall. Let's all be sure to thank him and to like the submission!

Simply go to http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...24.60546090739 and click the "like" link. Then, please post some kind words of thanks for the support.
