I don't know why people insist on doing this. They have somehow managed to lose before even being dealt a hand in 95% of rake structures. Don't do this. Just move down limits. It's literally so bad for everyone at the table including the people buying in short.

So this is one of two things:

a) OP is running into good "short" players, can't adapt his game, and would rather they **** off than improve or learn to beat them
b) OP is running into bad "short" players, in which case stop tapping the bowl lol

You can't beat good short stackers in no limit hold'em.

Adapting your game to not lose money against them means winning significantly less against everyone else.

I thought it was mostly due to crybabies who could have avoided it by playing on the deep tables, but didn't do so as fish didn't play on the deep tables so the whiners couldn't bumhunt and win

Well, the regs cried because they were guaranteed losing to the professional short stackers if they wanted to optimize winnings against fish.

For the whales who don't understand when you buy in for ridiculous amounts like 20bb all you are doing is maximizing the rake you are paying because you don't make use of rake caps. Also hard to get in lots of money against dumb fish with strong hands which is how you overcome the rake in general.

Obviously if you are paying more rake, so is anybody you are playing at, so it just becomes a lose lose situation.

Only exception is high stakes with low rake fees but very few people are in that scene so almost irrelevant.

step #1 : buy in short
Step #2 : shark regs will avoid your table since there is no way to profit vs short stacks
step #3 : only fellow short stacking fish will join the game, leading to a more enjoyable and fair contest where nobody is winning or losing pre rake

Step 4 don't play because you're just wasting your time and making some billionaire casino owner richer

Nah if a player buys in short 95 times out of 100 it's a sign that they are a weak recreational player.

On occasion you will be playing against a professional short stacker.

Online I would always look for people at the table who were short, because it was a sign that they were about to bust their account out of frustration or boredom wanting to move on to something else.

I agree with this but wanna point out that in live play, you generally cant rathole without leaving for an hour. Its annoying, but most of the reasonably good short stackers are bad to mediocre once they get deeper stacked and just give it back.

It is better to be silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

I know I'm such a fool that's why I pull 6 figures out of the game per year. I'm just an idiot who doesn't know what he's talking about. Just winning copious amounts of money somehow over millions of hands. Just a fish on a heater I guess.

And yet, when it comes to shortstacking, you demonstrate vanishingly small understanding of what you are talking about.

Except I do. All I see here is a case of mad cause bad.

However I will say I do not like how I present information sometimes as I can be pretty condescending with my sarcasm and general points which on a personal level I am working on. I am just extra frustrated because the site I am on all the recreational players are going through this fad where they buy in for 20bb at the 1/2 tables and ensure we all bleed to the rake.

Not very honest are you? Being bad for you and being bad are not the same. You dislike it because it opens you to exploitation when you exploit the deeper fish but by doing this it actually helps the game by protecting the suckers from you. I have as much sympathy for you being their victim as you do for those you victimize.

No they are not exploiting me they are exploiting themselves by trying to make a dumb strategy work while simultaneously bringing me down with them. You play a pot for 40bb and 2bb of it goes to rake. It's not a good proposition. Better to play big pots and pay less rake.

Also the victim rant is very bizarre.

Seems to me they're saying short stacking makes it more difficult to overcome the rake. Which is true as the bigger the pot the less rake is a factor and short stacking=no big pots

Why are we so concerned about protecting the suckers? Theirs a virtually endless supply of them so if one gets sent broke 2 mote pop up. I'll never understand why people think bad poker players are some sort of limited resource

In the end it's a tough long game, whether people are deep or short.

Just try to enjoy it I guess.

I'm not concerned with protecting the suckers. But I do care more about protecting them than protecting sharks from those that have figured out how to exploit them.
