Ruling when chips are missing Ruling when chips are missing

I have a general question about ruling in a tourney.
I played a tourney in a casino and a I opened at blinds 1k/2k with BB Ante and everybody including the blinds folded. When the dealer gave me the chips I realized that 1k chip was missing. So the blinds and Ante werenÂ’t paid correctly. The dealer did not remember so I called the floor. The floor refused to check the camera and his argument was that he had to stop the whole tourney and it is not with it because of one chip. Now my question: is there. A general ruling that he has to check or is it a house rule?

I agree with td, stopping a tournament for half a BB is ridiculous.

A couple of thought:
1. No Tournament Director is going to stop a tournament over a half a big blind in order to look at film.
2. Are you really sure you did the math correctly? I am not saying you are wrong and the dealer is correct. Far from it, but in my experience a good portion of what are thought of mistakes are not mistakes because a player forgot to account for something.
3. This highlights the fact that players should pay close attention to everything the dealer does and correct any mistakes they see. Dealers are human and will make mistakes. Even the best ones in the world will make an occasional mistake. The time to correct those mistakes is when they are being made. Trying ro correct a mistake after a pot is pushed is much harder.

I see your point, if you see, it is ridiculous to stop the whole tourney, but first of all he does not have to stop the whole tourney, not even the table. By watching the video he can rule later who has to pay the missing chip.
And think about it if it is the late phase of a high buying tourney, when ICM comes even more into the game and half a BB is worth 1000€.
And we hadalmost the same situation at the EPT Paris now, where also 2k in chips were missing in a 1.1K event. And they watched the camera immediately…

I don't think correcting tournament dealer mistakes many hands later after the fact is a good idea. Especially later in tournaments. Players make decisions based off of their stack sizes and the stack sizes of their oppenents.

Like you mention the ICM of a chip late in the tournament can be huge. People are making ICM decisions based on relative stack sizes and then the TD is going to unknowingly change those stack sizes after watching video for a random number of minutes?

That causes at least as many issues as it solves.

Point out dealer errors before the pot is pushed and don't expect alleged errors to get corrected post pot push unless they are significant enough to stop the tournament.

Your description put you nowhere near the bubble or remotely even in the money, so it remains ridiculous to stop the tournament.
