Re: Exodus -- Supposedly they are forming a new ministry that will hopefully make up for the damage they've done over the last 30-40 years. I saw he name somewhere but can't find the article. This is all I could find:

Quote:
Chambers said he and the Exodus International team plan to start a new, re-branded ministry for a "new generation."

"Our goals are to reduce fear and come alongside churches to become safe, welcoming and mutually transforming communities," Chambers said.
I still won't be running to Christianity anytime soon, but if done right he could make some waves.

I'm getting into town on Wed, and I'm not playing my first big tourney until Friday, so I'd definitely be up for a night out.

The good news will come tomorrow when DOMA gets struck down.

DOMA gets struck down, while Prop 8 gets punted back down.

Although being the 10th anniversary to Lawrence v Texas, on a long shot, prop 8 may get smacked as well. I don't think this court wants to tackle that yet though.

I'm expecting a decision striking down DOMA with 4 justices doing it on equal protections grounds, and 2, possibly 3 concurring but on federalism grounds.

You heard it here first.

I agree that DOMA is very likely to be repealed tomorrow but I think you're being a bit optimistic about the margins. I'm seeing this as the classic 5-4, at best 6-3, decision on ideological lines.

The liberal Justices will probably argue on equal protections grounds as you said but I wouldn't hold my breath expecting many concurring opinions on a federalist basis. A number of lawyers and politicians in support of DOMA have argued that allowing the states to decide on marriage is more in line with traditional principles of federalism in addition to democratic populism.

All we can do know is cross our fingers and hope for the best.

Hello everyone! I'm new to more serious study of poker and, as a card carrying gay community member, I thought this would be a good place for a first post.

I play mostly lower and middle stakes PLO live--because as a grad student at the University of Chicago I don't leave the US often. If anyone has any suggestions to getting started on the forums (i.e. good posts to read and people to follow), good games in Chicago and good people to talk to in the LGBT poker community I'm all ears!

Also if you're in Chicago or the Horseshoe Hammond feel free to say hi.

Welcome! I think the answer to this question depends on what it is you're looking for in this forum. We have nearly everything here.

Thanks ganstaman! I'm kindof a PLO specialist at this point and I'm trying to develop that game more, so help with that would be great. But I'm more interested in making friends in the LGBT poker community....because honestly seems pretty closeted at best at my stakes in Chicago.....guess the same could be said for my grad program....

Yeah I'm in the city, around the U of C. I haven't been able to go to shoe recently because of a combo of school and work. I'll definitely get up in posts so we can chat...

Hi All

Just a quick note on the Winter Olympics that I wanted to share.

I read this article and all I can think is if I was an LGBT athlete and had worked hard to get to the Olympics how devastating it would be to play in an environment such as Russia atm. Although would be great to just see an overwhelming support from foreign travelers coming in relocation seems to me to be the best option. Any thoughts and if agree maybe worth signing the petition linked at the end

I don't think it'll happen. A boycott seems more likely. All I know is Johnny Weir must be ****ting bricks right about now.

Sup queers. I read a good article about how some people are trying to replace GLBTQwhatever with the simpler acronym GSD = Gender and Sexual Diversities.

I'm all in favor of this for several reasons. It's kinda dumb to keep adding another letter every time we figure out there's another group that should be included.

It would be much better to have one all-inclusive label and eliminate arguments about which groups/letters should be included imo.

I'm asexual, and it doesn't bother me that much when "A" isn't included in the acronym, but there's some asexuals who get super butthurt about it.

My only problem with the standard acronym is the "B." I don't like the term bisexual because it implies that gender is binary. I think the more appropriate labels for people who currently identify as bisexual would be polysexual (one who is attracted to multiple genders) or pansexual (one who can be attracted to any gender).

Thoughts?

I know in my recent survey I got a decent minority of responses that claimed to be pansexual.

Frankly I agree that a shorter acronym would be useful, but I'm not particularly bothered by the term bisexual (despite the binary implications). Of course I'm not bi or pansexual so my label is pretty easy to come by.

This is the dilemma. Bisexual is too limiting because it assumes a gender binary and ignores other possible identities. On the other hand pansexual sounds way too much like I have a fetish for kitchen Implements.

I usually just go with " my sexual preference is often." Which is at least technically accurate. ;-)

At some point the alphabet soup is going to get unwieldy, I agree something shorter would be preferable. But of course it needs to be inclusive as well, which is the tension.
